“My ally is the Force, and it is a powerful ally…” This line is said by Master Yoda, one of the heroes of the Star Wars movie saga. Strength is energy, which is undoubtedly a great ally of man. People need this power, and they also need volunteers to control and use it properly. In Star Wars, this was done by members of the Jedi Order. In the real world, they are energy graduates. We invite you to study, during which you can do without lightsabers, but not without mental strength.

Energy is a field of study offered by most technical schools in Poland. It is also offered by universities, academies and private colleges. Such a large number of universities open to "power engineers" shows that this specialty enjoys great recognition. We have in mind not only future graduates, but also the labor market, which is looking for specialists who specialize in this field.

Structure and choice

Research in this area can be carried out at various faculties. This directly affects the subsequent choice within the framework of specialization, which is expressed in the amount of knowledge acquired and, therefore, in the possibility of employment in this industry. For example, at the Krakow University of Technology, we can find energy at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, specializing in electrical machines and devices, and at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, specializing in renewable energy sources, energy systems and devices. The Poznań University of Technology leads this area of ​​study at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering with the following specializations: thermal industrial energy, electrical energy, environmental energy sources, nuclear energy, sustainable energy development.

You can even study "energy" in English at several colleges. Undoubtedly, this option is worthy of attention, because knowledge of a foreign language will be very necessary in this profession, and constant communication with it will not let you slip out of shape. Through this, we will also learn specialized vocabulary and skills that may be useful in a possible future job outside of Poland.

And a certificate of secondary education, and a sincere desire

The problem with admission to study depends not only on the university, but also on the interest in the specialty in a given year. In recent years, it has fluctuated from two to five people per position - sometimes even within the same department. At the Krakow University of Technology, in the 2017/2018 enrollment for one place in the specialty "Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering", almost five candidates applied, and just a year earlier - less than two. For your own safety, comfort and peace of mind, you should apply for final exams – so that its result is an antidote to any change in the number of applicants applying for the university index.

Conscientious study at a university can be useful not only when recruiting, but also during study. Already in the first year, you will need a lot of general knowledge acquired in the lower and upper grades of the school. Of course, the ability to absorb complex content would also be useful. Energy is interdisciplinary directionwhich for the student means nothing more than that it will be difficult. The trick is to stay here. Often only 25% of a given year's starting number graduate from university.

During the first two years, much attention is paid to the systematization of the necessary knowledge in this area. mathematics, physics, thermodynamics and hydromechanics. You learn a lot while studying рисунок – we study: descriptive geometry, technical drawing and drawings in AutoCAD. In addition to science, you must study managerial skillsAnd also economic and IT knowledge. After graduation, the latter will be especially useful. This is because energy is extremely valuable at work. This is confirmed by students who graduated from both IT and energy. They argue that a person with both skills is much more competitive in the job market.

During your studies, you should, of course, pay special attention to the mentioned Learning foreign languages. Combinations of at least two of them - English-German, English-French - will open the way to career growth.

There is no lack of work

After receiving a diploma, we boldly begin our professional activities. What classes are waiting for the graduate? He can, for example, design heating installations for residential and industrial purposes. It can manage heat and electricity in industrial plants. He is waiting for positions in companies that operate energy systems, as well as in companies that produce and transmit energy. An interesting option is to obtain a construction qualification as part of an installation specialization within network, heating, gas, ventilation, plumbing, sewerage, electrical and energy installations.

Many job opportunities entitles you to issue energy certificates. The field of study will certainly help in obtaining them. Due to the statutory obligation to issue such certificates for new buildings, work in this area will not be completed soon. As we have learned from people with experience in this business, you can even treat it as an additional, very profitable activity. To qualify for the qualification, it is enough to obtain the title of power engineer. Thanks to the implementation of the Energy Efficiency Law, a new profession has emerged – energy efficiency auditor. Those who wish are already waiting for jobs, and wages fluctuate around 3-4 thousand PLN.

It is worth remembering that the demand for energy specialists is likely to increase in the coming years. This is due to state projects from 2008, which provide for the construction of two nuclear power plants in Poland by 2030 - these plans have not yet been canceled. Development in the field of renewable energy also opens up new career paths for graduates. Especially abroad. More widely developed than in Poland and still growing in Western and Northern Europe, renewable energy power plants are a great place to start your professional career.

Experience at a reasonable price

As you can see, finding a job for power engineers is not even that difficult, provided, however, that you already have some professional experience. Beneficial are internships and internships to be done while studying. Paid internships are an opportunity not only to earn extra money while studying, but also to gain very valuable experience that will look beautiful on your resume.

After working for several years, the Master of Energy Engineering can count on approx. PLN 5500 gross. For starters, he has a chance to earn a salary 4 thousand Polish zlotys gross, and by completing additional orders, you can increase this amount quite well.
