Highway driving. The police remind you of the ground rules. Don't make these mistakes! A motorway is a road devoid of traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, sharp turns and many other elements that can be found in a city. So, it would seem that it might be easier to manage it. However, many threats await her, and a mistake made, among other things Due to the speed of passing traffic, this can have much more serious consequences and consequences than the same mistake made while driving in the city.

“No matter what road we are on, the most important thing is safety and compliance with traffic rules. When using expressways and motorways, one should be especially careful, because on such roads we reach higher speeds than in the urban cycle. It seems that we perform the same maneuvers, but in situations such as changing lanes or hard braking, they are more difficult to perform. However, there are several behaviors that have a huge impact on minimizing the risk of a security threat,” reminds the police.

• Driving at high speed lengthens the stopping distance, and the driver has very little time to adequately react to the situation in the event of a sudden decrease in speed or a complete stop of the car. The movement of cars and trucks up to 3,5 tons is allowed. on the highway in Poland with a maximum speed of 140 km/h.

• Always keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front. So what does the term "safe distance" mean? This is the distance due to which we will avoid a collision in the event of sudden braking or stopping of the vehicle in front.

• When entering a motorway/expressway, we must do so safely and, above all, dynamically. Acceleration lanes are long enough to allow the driver to develop the appropriate vehicle speed, allowing smooth lane changes.

• If we are driving on a freeway and we see in the mirror that there is no one in the left lane and a vehicle ahead of us in the acceleration lane wants to enter the freeway, change from right to left lane to allow it to enter the freeway safely.

• If you want to overtake another vehicle, do not start the maneuver right away. Wait a little and carefully look in the mirrors, and only after making sure that there is no oncoming car in the left lane, start overtaking.

• It is imperative to remember to use the direction indicators and fasten your seat belts!

• If you are driving a truck of more than 3,5 tons, pay attention to the presence of the B-26 sign on the section of the road where you are, informing you that cars of your category are prohibited from overtaking!

• Driving on Polish roads is always on the right. Let's observe the environment, because there may be cars traveling at a higher speed and moving in the left lane, we can significantly obstruct traffic.

• Never use your phone while driving without a hands-free kit!

• Before we hit the road, let's check the technical condition of the car. It is important to use tires that are appropriate for the season. Thanks to the effective ambient lighting of the car, we can see other road users, especially after dark and in conditions of reduced air transparency, such as fog, precipitation.

• In the event of a vehicle breakdown or an accident, remember to behave properly outside the vehicle. If possible, choose an emergency lane, parking lot, or other safe place. Under no circumstances should you walk on the road! A damaged vehicle should be marked by turning on the alarm and displaying a warning triangle. The driver and passengers should leave the vehicle and stand on the roadside in a safe place, preferably behind energy-intensive barriers, constantly watching the surroundings. Don't forget to use reflective pieces after dark.
