Fantasy board games

Board games are a lot of fun and you probably don't need to remind anyone of that these days. Interestingly, more and more games appear on store shelves, inviting us to our favorite fantasy or sci-fi universes. Check out what fantastic board games you will get at AvtoTachkiu!

My home has always had charming, magical characters and places from fantasy worlds. Tolkien's Middle-earth, Lovecraft's dark Arkham or the school of witchcraft and wizardry known as Hogwarts have appeared many times on television or computer screens and on the pages of books.

It is no wonder that we love to visit these places also on the boards and cards of various games, which are becoming more and more and which offer more and more interesting forms of entertainment.

Letter from Hogwarts, or Games from the series "Harry Potter"

One of our favorite universes is J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter world. So "The Battle for Hogwarts" came to us immediately after the premiere. This beautifully crafted, fully cooperative game lets you play as one of four Gryffindor students:

  • Ron Weasley,
  • Hermione Granger,
  • Harry Potter,
  • Neville Longbottom.

Together we face the evil Death Eaters and their dark master, Voldemort. The game is divided into seven parts, corresponding to the original volumes about the adventures of young wizards.

During the game, we collect decks of cards and try to prevent the villains from taking important places in the story. Dark Mark metal markers, cinematic characters on the cards, and rules revealed throughout the game make this a fantasy board game that any Potter will love!

If we want something easier, like playing a car (yes, it's possible!), we choose Harry Potter Simple Chase, a card quiz that only true fans of the series can win! For Muggles, the questions may be too difficult, but if you've read the books and watched the movies multiple times, you can compete for the title of Harry and company's most dedicated fan!

Little wizards might like Cluedo Harry Potter, an investigative game in which we try to find out which of the dangerous adversaries of Dumbledore's students committed a heinous crime. Simple rules, atmospheric setting and fast unique gameplay - a real magnet for beginners!

“Tell buddy and come in”, i.e. “Lord of the Rings” on the board

The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth is a tiny fantasy card game that will fit in a large trouser pocket and certainly in any purse or backpack. During the game, we are trying to assemble a team of daredevils who will stand face to face with the servants of Sauron. However, falling into the Dark Eye's trap is easy, so be careful!

If we're looking for a big, even majestic game, let's take The Lord of the Rings: Journey to Middle-earth. With beautiful figurines, hundreds of elements and stunning graphics, this fabulous fantasy board game lets you play entire campaigns i.e. a series of scenarios that are combined into one story. We develop the characters of our heroes, acquire unique items and allies in order to finally throw the Ring of Omnipotence into the fiery depths of Orodruin - or fall in the attempt!

In the abyss of madness, that is, Cthulhu on the board

One of the most popular fantasy games on my desk lately is Arkham Horror 3rd Edition, an epic game with hundreds of unsettling cards, multiple scenarios, and a unique Codex mechanic. What's interesting is that when we start playing any of the scenarios, we have no idea what the conditions for winning are! It is not until we play out the next parts of the story that we discover that this time the threat looms over Lovecraft's imagined city on the Atlantic coast. The game lasts several hours, but every minute spent at the board is worth it!

The so-called paragraph games are also great entertainment. These are books that we do not read in the traditional way - page by page, but choose what the character should do, whose adventures are now about to be made. This choice tells us in which direction we should move now. A fascinating example of such a "punk game" is How to Train Your Cthulhu, which tells the story of a little Kasia who one day meets a Great Old One on her way, but no bigger than a small dog. Together, they face an incredible conspiracy and with our help, they can get out of this cabal - or fall in the fight against evil.

Delving into your favorite universes - be it Marvel, DC, the story of the Dragonlance or the already mentioned Middle-earth, Hogwarts or the streets of Arkham - allows you to immediately "jump" into the world of tabletop history. You can find many similar games in the offer of Galakta or Portal Games.
