Ferrari Purosangue. What will the first Ferrari SUV look like?

A new era is approaching in the automotive world. When Ferrari announced that it was working on a new SUV, it was a clear signal to many market observers that we were losing our last shrines. What was unimaginable until recently is now becoming a fact.

Well, maybe this is not entirely inconceivable. If companies like Lamborghini, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin or Porsche already have their own SUVs (even two Porshe), why should Ferrari be worse? In the end, despite the lamentations of the traditionalists, adding this model to the proposal did not hurt any of the listed companies. On the contrary, thanks to this decision, they received new profits, which, among other things, are used to produce even better sports cars.

Ferrari Purosangue (which translates from Italian as "thoroughbred") is the first attempt by the Italian company to cut off a piece of this cake.

Although the official premiere of the model has not yet taken place, we already know something about it. Read on for the latest information on Ferrari's first SUV.

A bit of history, or why did Ferrari change its mind?

The question is justified, because in 2016 the boss of the company Sergio Marchione asked the question: "Will a Ferrari SUV be built?" he answered firmly: "over my corpse." His words proved to be prophetic as he stepped down from office in 2018 and soon passed away from postoperative complications.

The new head of Ferrari is Louis Camilleri, who no longer has such extreme views. Although at first he hesitated a little about this decision, in the end he gave in to the vision of additional profit from the new market segment.

So we come to the point where soon (no later than the beginning of 2022) we will meet the first SUV and the first five-door Ferrari. It is said to be the successor to the GTC 4 Lusso, which disappeared from the Italian manufacturer's offer in mid-2020.

What will a Ferrari SUV have under the hood?

Many fans of the Italian brand will agree that without a V12 engine, there is no real Ferrari. Although this thesis is greatly exaggerated (which will be confirmed by everyone who had contact, for example, with the Ferrari F8), we understand this opinion. The Italian manufacturer's XNUMX-cylinder naturally aspirated engines are legendary.

Therefore, many will surely be delighted that the (allegedly) Purosangue will be equipped with such a unit. We are probably talking about the 6,5 liter version, the power of which reaches 789 hp. We have seen such an engine, for example, in the Ferrari 812.

However, the possibility of a V8 block appearing on the new SUV is worth considering. The chances are good for that, as V12 engines may become a thing of the past due to increasingly stringent exhaust emission standards. This is not the only reason. After all, some drivers prefer the softer turbocharged V8 engine over the 12V monster.

This is one of the reasons why Ferrari has already offered two engine versions for the GTC4 Lusso - V8 and V12. It is likely that Purosangue will follow the same path.

It is also possible that it will appear in a hybrid version, which will increase its efficiency and useful power.

Finally, a version of the future cannot be ruled out, in which electric versions of this model will also appear shortly after the premiere. According to some reports, Ferrari is already planning such Purosangue variants. They should see the light of day between 2024 and 2026. However, we do not know if they will have the same shape and size or in a modified version.

Four-wheel drive? Everything points to it

It is true that we have no evidence that Purosangue will also be characterized by it, but this is very likely. After all, SUVs and four-wheel drive are inseparable, like Bonnie and Clyde. However, our assumptions will be confirmed only after the car's premiere.

Then we'll see if it will be a complex system straight out of the GTC4 Lusso (with an additional gearbox for the front axle) or maybe some simpler solution.

What will the Ferrari Purosangue SUV look like?

All indications are that the new SUV will be based on the popular Ferrari Roma platform. There is nothing to complain about repetitions, because most companies are trying to create universal bases for their cars. This is how they save money.

In this case, we are dealing with such a flexible platform that one should not expect much similarity with its predecessors. Only the distance between the bulkhead and the engine can be the same.

What about the car body?

Don't expect the Ferrari Purosangue to look like a traditional SUV. If photos of test mules tracked on Italian streets have anything to offer, the new car will be smoother than competing models. In the end, the experimental versions were based on a slightly smaller build of the Maserati Levante.

Based on this, we can most likely assume that the Ferrari SUV will retain the features of a supercar.

When does Ferrari Purosangue start? 2021 or 2022?

Even though Ferrari originally planned to launch the new SUV in 2021, we are unlikely to see it that soon. Everything indicates that we will meet the novelty of the Italian manufacturer only at the beginning of 2022. The first production versions will be delivered to customers in a few months.

Ferrari Purosangue - the price of a new SUV

Are you wondering how much stakeholders will pay for Purosangue? According to leaks from Ferrari, the price of the SUV will be about 300 rubles. dollars. It may not be too much for a car with a black horse logo, but it still clearly shows who can afford it.

Like other luxury SUVs, this gem is aimed at wealthy families and single people who love to travel in comfort in a vehicle designed for all conditions.

Summation

As you can see, our knowledge of the new Italian brand SUV is still limited. Will he be able to compete with competitors and win? Will the competition between Ferrari Purosangue and Lamborghini Urus survive in history? Time will show.

In the meantime, you can be sure that the beginning of 2022 will be very interesting.

It's also interesting that Ferrari is so loud about its plans for this model. Until now, we knew that the company is very mysterious when it comes to its new projects. Apparently, he has high hopes for his SUV and is already setting the stage for future buyers.

We won't be surprised if there are a lot of them. Ultimately, Purosangue will go down in brand history as a revolutionary change. Hopefully, in addition to a media-friendly revolution, we also get a good car.
