Ford F-100 Eluminator, do-it-yourself electric restomod

In the latest episode of the spectacular SEMA show In Las Vegas, the typical American tuning fair ended last Friday. Ford unveiled an entire army of cars and pickups equipped in a variety of ways to showcase the possibilities offered by its Genuine Parts and Accessories catalog. Not only modern.

The F-100 Eluminator is a restored and technically redesigned classic 1978 pickup truck powered by a 358kW Ford Mustang Mach-E GT electric motor. This is not a purely demonstration operation, because Ford intends to continue the tradition of "engine boxes" - that is, the free sale of engines, even in the era of electric mobility.

Already in the catalog

US houses, above all Ford and Chevrolet began making their engines available to private customers and small-volume car manufacturers decades ago. Many of them still do so, including offering not only modern engines, but somewhat older, but highly sought after and prized units, such as the small 350 block that GM returned to build using modern procedures.

Following the same concept, Casa del'Ovale is preparing to sell the Illuminator, an electric motor capable of transmitting up to 210 кВт power and 430 Nm of torque, which in this case gives the prototype the name and which is already used for each of the two axles of the all-wheel drive Mach-E GT.

The cost of one engine already included in the Ford Performance Parts Catalog under the code M-9000-MACH-E is 3.900 USD, about 3.400 euros and obviously does not include the battery or power electronics. Considering that 2 is required for an all-wheel drive vehicle, we are talking about 6.800 euros, which can be spent only on the engines.

Ford Performance also intends to work with suppliers to develop various components in order to be able to offer complete electric powertrains for preparation, modification and conversion in the future.
