Ford Fiesta and Focus with a 48-volt network

Ford designers are electrifying their range and will soon introduce the Fiesta and Focus models in EcoBoost Hybrid versions. For this, small and compact machines are equipped with 48-volt microhybrid technology. A belt-driven starter-generator, which Ford called BISG, simultaneously performs several tasks: it replaces the generator and starter, it accelerates with the help of additional power and converts the movement energy into electricity.

Ford Fiesta Eco Boost Hybrid is available in versions of 125 or 155 hp. Compared to Fiesta with 125 hp without the 48-volt equipment to be sold, the declared micro-hybrid consumption will be five percent lower. The reason is that the electricity generated during braking and stored in the battery for 10 amp hours helps to speed up the unloading of the internal combustion engine. Additional traction provides an 11,5-kilowatt electric motor. With it, the maximum torque is increased by 20 Nm to 240 Newton meters. However, while Ford has not provided accurate data on fuel consumption and acceleration.

The one-liter three-cylinder engine gets a larger turbocharger. After the Fiesta and Focus, each model series will be complemented by at least one electrified version. New additions include both micro and full and plug-in hybrid systems, as well as full electric cars. It is expected that by the end of 2021 18 electrified models will appear on the market. One of them will be the new Mustang, sales of which are expected to begin in 2022.
