Ford plans to nearly double F-150 Lightning production to 150,000 units per year.

Ford has already hinted at doubling F-150 Lightning production to 800,000 units per year. However, the Blue Oval now plans to increase production to 150,000 units and begin deliveries in the spring of the year.

To keep up with "growing consumer demand," Ford announced plans to nearly double production to 150,000 units per year.

Increasing income and jobs

At Ford's Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, Michigan, F-150 Lightning production had already doubled to 80,000 trucks a year by September. This earlier move reportedly cost Ford an additional $250 million in investment and created an additional 450 jobs compared to when it planned to produce only trucks per year. This latest doubling of production will undoubtedly mean even more money and jobs.

The automaker did not specify how much additional investment or how many additional labor would be needed to double Lightning production again. But to get the job done, Ford said a small task force, made up of workers from across the supply chain, was formed to find "ways to expand production."

Mustang Mach-E will also increase production

In other news about Ford's increased EV production, the company recently committed to tripling its electric crossover production (also by popular demand) and plans to produce more than 200,000 Mach-Es per year by 2023. Add to this the electric Ford E Transit. van and, more generally, the Blue Oval plans 600,000 936,172 BEVs each year over the next two years. To put that number in perspective, Tesla delivered vehicles in the year, and about a third of them were delivered in the most recent quarter.

F-150 Lightning deliveries to begin in spring

Speaking of shipping, the first wave of Lightning booking holders (of which there are nearly 200,000 in total) will be contacted to begin the process of turning their online seats into real, specific bookings starting this Thursday. Copies of the electric forklift for customers will be delivered starting this spring.

This news comes the day before. This battery-powered pickup is still a year away from production, so the Blue Oval will at least outsell it in the market. We'll see how they compare when the performance specs are revealed, but given the Lightning's 775 lb-ft of torque, the Silverado will have to take a beating.
