To ensure the safety of cars and pedestrians, parking lights are used, which are also called parking lights. They are located on the sides of the front and rear of the car, and must be lit up if you are driving at night. Also, they are left on while stopping or parking on the roadway or on the side of the road.

They perform a very important function - they attract the attention of other drivers and mark the size of the vehicle in the dark. During the day, the dimensions are not used, since they have low power and are practically invisible in bright sunlight. Front parking lights

The front dimensions are called differently: sidelights, parking lamps, dimensions. They are located along the edges of the front of the car on the same line. In older models, as well as on trucks, the dimensions are placed on the wings.

The front markers must be illuminated with white light only. The rules of the road oblige drivers to turn on these lights at night and in conditions of poor visibility in conjunction with other optics: fog lights, dipped or high beam lights.

For the first time, front dimensions were installed on American cars back in 1968 and have since become mandatory, because thanks to them, the accident rate has been reduced by almost half.

Rear parking lights

In the rear of passenger cars, the dimensions are also located on the sides on the same line and are part of the block headlight. According to the list of faults, the rear dimensions can only be red. If we are talking about buses or freight transport, then the dimensions should be not only at the bottom, but also at the top, to indicate the dimensions of the vehicle.

The rear dimensions must be turned on at night, both while driving and when stopping on the side of the road.

Penalty for not included parking lights

The Code of Administrative Offenses does not contain a separate penalty for non-burning, non-working or contaminated dimensions. However, Article 12.5 Part 1 clearly states that in case of any non-compliance of lighting devices with the basic provisions for allowing the vehicle to operate, either a warning or a fine of 500 rubles is issued.

That is, this fine can be received in the following cases:

• one of the dimensions does not burn or is dirty;
• they burn, but not with that light: the front ones are only white, the rear ones are red.

The decision to issue a fine or issue a warning is made by the inspector on the spot, based on specific road circumstances and the order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs No. 185.

The device gside lights

Today, halogen bulbs or LEDs are usually installed in dimensions. Whichever of these types of lamps you choose, remember that in the back, the dimensions should not shine brighter than turn indicators or brake lights.

The best choice would be LEDs or LED blocks, because, unlike conventional incandescent and halogen bulbs, they consume less electricity, and their service life can reach 100 hours of glow. True, they cost more.

If the LEDs are not provided by the design of your car, then when they are installed, the malfunction sensor may light up. This is due to the fact that their power is much lower than that of halogen lamps. Therefore, it is necessary to separately install resistors in front of them to stabilize the voltage.

Usually, the dimensions turn on automatically when the dipped beam headlights are turned on. In addition, some vehicles provide the ability to turn on and off the parking lights individually. This may be necessary, for example, when you need to mark a parked car in a tight parking lot.

It is also worth noting that reflectors are used as marker lights for freight vehicles - retroreflectors. They reflect the light of other vehicles and are passive means of light signaling.
