Gas carriers, this is why methane is so popular

The supply of methane, both gaseous and liquid, is gaining in popularity because it responds effectively mainly to two needs, on the one hand, the reduction operating costs and the environmental impact of heavy transport.
Reduced cost per kilometer and green spirit
In the first case, at the same distance one kg liquid or gaseous methane costs up to 50 cents less than liter diesel fuel, convenience at the moment is still limited by the higher cost of gasoline vehicles. In fact, they have a much higher price list than diesel models with the same power, and even double that in the case of models with LPG or LNG, due to special cryogenic tanksrequired to maintain liquid methane at low temperatures and pressures.
However, the investment reimbursed maximum autonomy which, in turn, can double compared to methane stored in gaseous form, reaching 1.600 km. From an environmental point of view, all the data are in favor of natural gas engines; CO2 emissions are reduced by Present in several = 15% (and psoson odominuire again if bio methane from renewable sources) nitrogen oxides fall to Present in several = 60% and while sulfur oxides and fine dust are practically eliminated completely (99%).

Even in terms of performance, the comparison remains true: in contrast to the sector automotivewhere conversion to methane has always had an economic goal balanced by a performance tradeoff, definitely modest, on trucks even gas characteristics are much higher competitive.
The reason lies in engine type used: for passenger cars, conversion of gasoline units to compression ratio is preferable below which uses little functions and anti-knock ability (with an octane number higher than Present in several = 30% compared to gasoline) methane. Qualities that make it more suitable for use on engine variants a Diesel cyclewhich is useless on cars (for which there was enough diesel economy), but which today finds the perfect square right on heavy.
Technological advances also allow reliability, now equal to diesel, at intervals service analogs to which a lower noise level has been added, benefits for both the driver and the environment, which allows the use of methane models in urban setting even at night.
Leader of Iveco, Swedes in tow
Just for today some builders endorsed the reason for the emergence of liquid methane in trucks: Iveco, Scania and Volvo Trucks, in particular, have many varieties of heavy liquid or gaseous methane on their list. Iveco in particular in the spring 2019 (and with the eco-incentives they offered before 20.000 euro for the purchase of heavy LNG) representedPresent in several = 85% sales. Other giants, such as Mercedes, which concentrates its energy on electricity, are instead satisfied with specific options such as the Econic NGT designed to collect trash.
