Get ready for the arrival of spring! – Velobekan – Electric bike

FIRST GREAT CLEANING!

A clean and well-maintained bike is known to prolong the life of its components and increase riding pleasure. Therefore, you should start with cleaning in order to effectively inspect your frame. All you need for this is a bucket, bike cleaner, brushes (for cleaning hard to reach areas), transmission degreaser and a towel to dry the bike.

Use cleaning tools, a clean cloth, frame cleaner, and a little elbow grease to wipe the entire frame. In particular, work in areas that are easily dirty, such as the bottom of the carriage or the inside of the fork and chainstays. You should start to see the true condition of your electric bike.

Here are a few steps to help you know what to clean and how to clean:

  • Wheels

Clean the wheels (the rim between the spokes and the hub in the center of the wheel) with bike cleaner or plain water to remove any accumulated dust. Then check the condition of the rims by lifting the wheel up and spinning it. The bearing must be smooth and the rim must not wobble or touch the brake pads. To easily check wheel straightness, take, for example, a fixed point on a bike frame, chainstay or fork and make sure the distance between that fixed point and the brake surface of the rim does not change. If so, now is the time to make an appointment to align the wheels.

Inspect your tires and pay special attention to the tread. If it is badly worn or uneven, if you notice cracks or the tires feel dry, replace them to avoid punctures.

Be aware that warped or damaged discs can prematurely wear out tires and brake pads.

  • Трансмиссия

The transmission system includes pedals, chain, cassette, chainrings and derailleurs. You will need a kickstand to raise the rear wheel, rotate it and observe the gear changes.

Shift the gears through all front and sprockets. It should be smooth and quiet. Otherwise, the switch will need to be adjusted. Difficult to set yourself up for the uninitiated, let your switches be adjusted in the store, the professionals welcome you to our store in Paris.

Dust and dirt easily and quickly build up in the chain, on the rear derailleur rollers and on the sprockets. Use the transmission cleaner or an old toothbrush with degreaser to clean them. In addition to providing a smoother ride and longer bike life, lubricants help reduce the build-up of dirt and dust on the chain and drivetrain. To evenly lubricate the chain, pedal and drip a few drops of oil directly onto the chain.

  • Braking system

Pay attention to the condition of your brake pads. You will need to adjust the brakes if you notice that your pads are worn out. If they are too worn out, just replace them.

There are many types of brakes and they are different, some of them are quite easy to set up, such as brakes for road bikes. Other types of brakes, such as disc brakes, should be left to the discretion of the professional. Remember, at the end of the day, when it comes to brakes, your safety is at stake.

  • Cables and Sheaths

Made of metal and protected by a plastic sheath, cables connect the derailleur levers and brake levers. To ensure your safety and enjoyment of your ride, inspect these cables for cracks in the jacket, rust on the cables, or poor fit.

Brake and gear cables tend to loosen over time, so it's no surprise that your bike needs a cable readjustment after a clean winter.

  • Bolts and quick couplings

Make sure all bolts and quick disconnects are tight to avoid any unpleasant surprises. Nobody wants to lose a wheel while driving!

Then, before you hit the road, check your brakes and make sure the tire pressures are correct.

After all these little checks, you're ready to hit the road again to go to work or for a little sunny walk! Have a nice trip, my friends.
