Characteristics of the mining dump truck MAZ-503

MAZ-503 is a mining dump truck, mass-produced in 1965-1977. Minsk Automobile Plant. It has several modifications that differ in the shape and height of the side, the direction of the ejection and the cabin.

Technical specifications

The MAZ-500 flatbed truck served as the basis for the development of the machine. At the prototype level, the dump truck was ready in mid-1958. Since 1963, he went into an experimental assembly, and after 2 years into a series. MAZ-503 has modifications that have been assigned indices: A, B, C (option for the North), C, D (the last 2 acquired body insulation). On this basis, models have been developed:

• 300 - more productive for career conditions;
• 509B - all-wheel drive;
• 510 - cab with 1 seat;
• 511+847 - road train with side unloading.

The last 3 models of the series were not produced.

The difference between the machine and the base is as follows:

• narrowly focused - for the transportation of quarry soil;
• the use of telescopic type hydraulic shock absorbers;
• wheelbase reduced to 3,4 m.

The rest of the changes were minor, they affected the interior, which:

• remained the same as in modern MAZ MKM garbage trucks, all-metal;
• made by welding;
• got 1 bed for 3 places.

MAZ is equipped with:

• a device for shaking the body, allowing better discharge;
• hydraulic mechanism for raising/lowering the body, controlled from the cab;
• power steering;
• transmission with a gear ratio of 9,57;
• brake system without transmission to the trailer;
• electric wipers;
• manual windows;
• engine YaMZ-236 4-stroke, volume 11,1 l, with 6 cylinders arranged in a V-shape, power 180 l / s, compression ratio - 16,5, direct injection of the mixture, fuel consumption - 22 l / h. 100 km, which is almost 2 times less than the SAZ-3503, produced for the needs of agricultural enterprises;
• 6-speed manual transmission.

Dump truck characteristics:

• dimensions - 5,785x2,5x2,65m;
• turning radius - 8,5 m;
• free space - 27 cm;
• track width - 1865 m (rear wheels), 1,97 - front;
• carrying capacity - 8 tons;
• curb and gross weight - respectively 7,25 and 15,25 tons;
• maximum axle loads: 3,58 (front), 10 (rear);
• maximum circulation speed 75 km/h.

MAZ-503A

This is the second modification of the dump truck (the first one received index B). Differences from its predecessor:

• modified front view;
• cars have become more modern: interior heater, lighting devices.

MAZ-503B

This is the first modification of the machine. Changes in it are minor, and there are not many of them:

• the body has straight sides;
• appeared self-adjusting the opening of the tailgate;
• redesigned hydraulics, improved handling.
