Hill Assistance

A device that allows you to stop a vehicle on slopes with the engine running without having to hold your foot on the brake or apply the handbrake. The car restarts as soon as the accelerator is pressed again.

This is especially useful at traffic lights or hill stops, and an automatic transmission is naturally necessary. One way to activate Hill Assistance (Mercedes) is to depress the brake pedal hard after stopping the car. You can then take your foot off the brake and the car will remain stationary with the engine running and the transmission engaged.
