Extended range! That's all. You know, motorists have been “excited” by gas for at least (good) half a century. Sometimes because of the lower fuel consumption, sometimes because of the cheaper mileage (which is not necessarily the same thing), sometimes because of something third, and there is always "something in between." The reasons against, human, are enormous. Something is also understandable and acceptable.

Perhaps the most opportune moment is that the Slovenian Honda dealer has decided to formally equip the cars sold with them, of course, at the request of the customer, with one of the most modern devices of this kind.

The initial cost is just under € 1.900 (excluding taxes), followed by the cost of service inspections of the device, which is over € 300 for up to 1.700 kilometers. In total, about 4.100 euros. In addition to the device, there is also a five-year warranty.

From a user point of view, for the money, you get a small square device on the dashboard and an extra gas fill hole next to the gas hole. Plus a nozzle that is screwed into this additional hole. The device has a button for turning the gas drive on and off and LEDs showing the approximate state of the gas tank. There is nothing wrong or bad with auto mechanics. Everything is adapted for dummies.

It's good if you find out right from the start: the flight range data on the on-board computer is (no longer) reliable, sometimes showing very funny, completely wrong values. In the sun, the LEDs are not visible (well), and for some reason the small device does not fit on the neat, "technically" designed dashboard.

Gas pumps are quite rare, and even where they are, they are preferable to diesel pumps over gasoline ones. This means that if you follow the written refueling rules, you must first refuel one type of fuel, line up, pay, move the car (God forbid, the pump is overfilled) to a pump for another type of fuel, refuel it again and again. fun queuing up at the checkout.

This is how they imagined, for example, in Petrol. The refill button on the pump must be constantly pressed during refilling; time-consuming, annoying, especially in the cold. The refueling handle, which is simply attached to the hole, after refilling, of course, needs to be removed, which is not difficult, but the rest of the gas in the joint is blown out loudly. And at least one hand will stink of "household" gas, which it really is.

Advantages? The engine performance is said to have not changed due to sophisticated gas technology, but in practice the driving experience is as if the car were a little more lazy while driving on gas.

They also state that the level of harmful emissions is much lower than the emissions that the same engine emits when running on gasoline, and that carbon dioxide emissions are about 15 percent lower. However, any difference in fuel type between the drives found in our test is negligible in practice.

The last drawback of such a power plant is an additional fuel tank, which should make room somewhere in crowded modern cars, or, in other words: something must be abandoned. Spare, partial volume of the trunk and the like.

Let's look at consumption. Since the engine runs on gasoline every time it starts, it is impossible to measure the exact consumption, but the approximate numbers are accurate enough for the big picture. But, perhaps, it doesn't even make sense to talk about comparing consumption in liters per 100 kilometers; says much more about the cost of the route traveled.

Let's look at our results: a hundred kilometers on gasoline costs a good seven euros, and the same distance on gasoline costs 14 euros! !! At the time of testing, the price of a liter of gasoline was 2 euros, and liquefied gas 1 euro. Is there anything else to add here?

Gas is known to be used as fuel in gasoline engines, and this Accord Tourer is ideal for this. On the drive side (and even without taking into account the switch to gas), it seems that this is the least typical Honda, because it is in the drive that the sportiness is really hidden; the engine actually starts only above 6.500 rpm, and even the long-calculated automatic transmission, which has only five gears and which already shifts slowly and works the old fashioned way, does not help its laziness below this value.

On the other hand, excellent chassis mechanics, which allows the body to tilt only a little, but perfectly dampens bumps and pits, while maintaining a very precise, sporty (not yet racing) steering wheel that pleases at every really fast turn. with a large radius.

At the same time, the idea is imposed that such an Accord could be an exceptional traveler if it had a diesel engine. HM. ... Of course, even such a combination works great for this and, most likely, even better.

If it is true that the cost of the gas device is refunded after 50 kilometers, it is true, but if you think you like the quiet sound of the engine without vibrations, that the cabin heats up much earlier in winter and that you increase your range by about 100 percent, then in fact, it’s strange that not every gasoline car owner who drives 15 or more miles a year thinks about it.

But this is already due to reasons that cannot be eliminated by any technique.

evaluation

  • We know almost everything about the Accord Tourer: that it is a beautiful and good sports car with a good image. Thanks to the gasoline engine and the possibility of using the gas engine, the cost of a kilometer is reduced, which is paid for with an initial investment of about 20 thousand kilometers per year, and the range is significantly increased. Good combination. Only the drivetrain somehow lags behind Honda's high technical standards.
