Honda Jazz 1.4LS

Okay, someone from the automotive industry, someone from the Far East, would be serious about being called Funky. Let there be something else. Lively. More alive. Less calm. Less serious. More frisky. This is the Honda Jazz.

With some changes, more noticeable on the inside, Jazz keeps up with the times and retains everything that used to make it special, exceptional and interesting.

For example, capacity. Jazz is a small car because with a height of 3 meters it belongs to the subcompact class, where there are many competitors. However, the Jazz is different: recognizable from the outside, especially interesting from the side and similar to "serious" large limousine vans, and there is much more space inside (even in the back seat) than you might think.

Fit, as it is called in Japan, is only three years old and therefore still very relevant in terms of design and technology. Suitable in sports terminology. Renovated inside gorgeous (especially at night)! But of course not everyone likes it, especially the central part of the dashboard. Meters leave less doubt; they are large, beautiful and transparent, now also with data on outside air temperature and average fuel consumption, but without data on engine temperature.

The sporty look of the instruments is complemented by a steering wheel with an exterior and perforated plastic (like a golf ball), which is very pleasant to hold, and a gear lever with the same surface finish, while the interior is full of colors, workmanship, design and materials. We had quite a few problems with the automatic air conditioner as it only produced tropical heat or polar cold with wind.

Anyone who chooses a more powerful 1-liter engine for Jazz will not be mistaken. It's really unconvincing right at idle, but it wakes up at 4rpm and then up to 1500rpm, where the electronics stop working completely imperceptibly, the torque is constantly increasing and the Jazz is continually accelerating. The car also loves to spin, it's a pity that this Honda also has a very long gearbox, which makes it impossible to turn the engine over 6400 rpm in fourth gear. True, the red box starts at 6100, but the electronics allow for an additional 6000 rpm. ...

Anyway, at 6100 rpm in fourth gear, the Jazz accelerates to almost 170 kilometers per hour, and when you turn on the fifth gear, the revs drop to 5000, the noise is noticeably reduced, and the desire to accelerate completely disappears. In short: an economical drivetrain. But with two salary medals; If you want to go fast and therefore start the engine, with a long gearbox this will also mean (too) high consumption, even around ten liters per 100 kilometers. On the other hand, with gentle driving, consumption also dropped to a good six liters per 100 km. It all depends on the driver or his right foot.

However, despite some indignation, the statement remains unchanged: jazz is "funk". With its appearance, with its ease of guidance and control, with its maneuverability and overall ease of use. In the city and on long trips. Adult small car.

evaluation

  • In the Jazz, it still impresses with its longitudinal interior space and therefore ease of use, be it seating or carrying luggage. The engine is typical Honda in nature, so it spins with pleasure and also allows for some sporting pleasures. Very useful in the city.
