Honda is testing powertrains that can be used in homes

In the Philippines, a region hit hard by typhoons, Honda is testing electric power packs. Vehicle-based kits will be used to power households when there is no electricity on the grid.

Testing of Honda devices will begin this fall on the Philippine island of Romblon. Currently, the island uses mainly diesel generators, that is, expensive solutions that are poorly adapted to a sharp increase in power.

The exchange uses Honda batteries to store energy. The devices will be connected to the grid, but will also be powered by wind farms to be built by local Honda partner Komaihaltec. A household equipped with such a device must be completely autonomous and independent of electricity supplied from the network.
