Husaberg FE 450/570

Isn't that interesting? Until yesterday, we constantly listened to how important a low center of gravity is. They lowered it, lowered it, now the engine has a lower center of gravity and is generally better than its predecessor. What do you say about the fact that the center point of the masses in the new Husaberg has been raised? Why?

The explanation is simple: they wanted to move the rotating masses closer to the center of gravity, and this maximum rotating mass in the engine is the main shaft. It is now located above the gearbox, rather than in front of it, as in the classic motorcycle design. 10 centimeters taller and 16 centimeters back from last year's Husaberg engine.

If you still don’t know why these ulcers fascinate you, remove the “felt” from the bike, twist it, grab it with both hands and move it left and right. You will feel resistance in your hands, which cannot be said about a stationary wheel, and the greater the distance (lever) to the axle, the more difficult it is to move. In addition, they have increased the height under the engine, making it easier for the new FE to navigate rocks and fallen trees.

The Keihin injection electronics with a 42mm bore are also new. The injection unit and air filter are located above the unit, somewhere under the driver's stones. To change the filter, you only need to remove the seat by pressing the lever, and due to the high setting, the Husaberg can wander in deeper water.

The new hard enduro brothers no longer have a foot starter, of course because of the weight loss product. It is assumed that the unit with a working volume of 450 cubic centimeters will weigh 31 kilograms, and the larger one is half a kilogram heavier. The engine has only one lubricating oil, one filter and two pumps.

With the help of the control electronics, we can choose between 10 different characteristics, three of which are set as standard (for beginners, standard and professional), and other “mappings” can be programmed by demanding users.

However, this is not the end of the innovations in the device. Look at the photo with the stripped rear, where the rear of the motorcycle rests on plastic instead of metal. A similar system was used by KTM (which, incidentally, owns Husaberg) on the 690 enduro and SMC models, while the Husaberg did not have a plastic fuel tank.

The refueling hole remains in the old location, except that the tank is designed so that most of the fuel is under the seat, which is as close to the motorcycle's center of gravity as possible. And what is because of all this concentration of mass around the higher shaft?

Just one joy! For a first positive impression, it is enough to drive a few tens of meters across the field, and you will feel that the new FE is extremely easy to operate. When riding in a standing position, it is easily controlled by the legs, i.e. transfers weight to the feet. It goes into a corner without hesitation and, thanks to the extremely responsive engine in the lower rev range, forgives when we want to accelerate in too high a gear. In particular, in terms of torque, the tractor has a more powerful model, which is surprisingly non-aggressive and sharp. It literally pulls from idle (tested when starting off a ravine on a steep descent) and, according to the owner of last year's model, gets less onto the rear wheel, despite the huge power reserve.

For the less responsive enduros, we still recommend the 450cc engine.

The suspension on both models works very well in terms of standard equipment and setups, and the bike also feels good on track when driving fast over potholes, which is also praised by the sturdy frame. Due to the narrower fuel tank between the legs, it is no longer as "bulky", which was one of the main disadvantages of previous Bergs. Also commendable is the idea that the lettering and graphics are no longer glued to the plastic, but embossed, and that the FE comes standard with milled crosses and a clutch lever that retracts when dropped.

When Mikha and I were returning from a presentation in distant Slovakia, we discussed for a long time what I could write about the "criticism" in this Husaberg. Ok, price. Given the high amount in Euros they ask for and the limited amount, we would also like to make sure that the yellow-blue colors don't go too far into the cabbage-orange color, which can happen with a good reaction from the early test drivers.

Well, the bulky plastic handle under the seat was not very comfortable, because when the bike has to be moved by hand, the rear fender comes in handy. Micha himself would like a stronger suspension, but we must know that he is not quite a Sunday racer. For most products, the White Power on this bike is more than enough.

The boys from Husaberg deserve to be commended. Firstly, because they had the courage to develop something new, and secondly, because the whole package works! We really want the newcomer to be able to prove themselves in our annual performance test because we feel like a shift could occur at the top.

Face to face. ...

Miha Špindler: I love the way Husaberg drives the motocross track. My 550 FE 2008 is more difficult to handle on the track and not as stable, although I have improved suspension. New 450cc engine See Pulls well at lowest rpms, but doesn't spin too hard. I like the more powerful 570cc engine even better. jumping would be professional. the application required some work. Most likely next season I will be riding a 450cc model, improving the suspension and replacing the exhaust with an Akrapovic exhaust system.
