Hyundai i20 1.2 Dynamic (3 doors)

Polo, Clio, Fiesta, Punto are all names that Slovenian motorists have been accustomed to for many years. And since these are the names of cars that have gained a certain reputation during this time, there are people (I guess) who resort to new models because they also liked the previous ones.

Why would I even care for other cars when, for example, the Clio has served me well for the past eight years? Hyundai, while already a well established brand in our market, seems to have a tough challenge with newcomers coldly called letters and double digits.

The design of the Hyundai i20 is not wrong. Very European (something between Corso, Fiesta and - Hyundai), a little "chrysalis", but stable.

The sideline runs from the large, teardrop-shaped lights along the slightly bulbous side to the rear, where that bulbous line drops into a short overhang behind the rear wheel, and the taillights are reinforced laterally. It's not for "falling into the trap", but, as the neighbor said, the owner of the previous generation Fiesta is otherwise pretty.

V inside is no different, as the toolbar is drawn simply and at the same time lively enough not to be boring. In the center, a little to the side of the driver's field of vision, he found a red backlit LCD screen displaying data from the on-board computer and radio.

It's annoying to switch between the functions of the on-board computer with a button on the right side of the center console. At the bottom we find two connectors for an iPod or USB dongle, which will delight anyone who loses hope for good music on (Slovenian) radio stations. A small flash drive can hold about 50 classic CDs!

After restarting the car, the radio tape recorder with the inserted USB “freezes” several times and wakes up only after a few minutes, but the problem was solved by turning off and reconnecting the key.

We also control the radio on the steering wheel - there are buttons to adjust the volume, mute, select the sound source (radio, CD, USB), switch radio stations or songs, and on the center console we also manage folders and subfolders on the music carrier. The sound of the radio is very good.

There is no backlight in the sun visors next to the mirrors (oh, how the lady will put on makeup!), The box without a lock in front of the passenger is large, and two in the door are long, but narrow - just for a wallet, a folder and five more between the front seats there are smaller places to store things, it can also be for a bowler hat - an ashtray. Materials and quality of finishing in the interior are at a high level, only the gear lever is a little “Czech”.

Seats they are very “measurable”, they don't press, just a little more lumbar support won't hurt. It is extremely inconvenient to enter the back bench from the left, as the seat does not move longitudinally when the back is folded down and it takes a lot of exercise for an adult to squeeze into the back bench. It's easier on the left.

Praise the high back of the back bench, so an average adult is fine there. In addition, the legroom is not so small that at least half of the passengers would suffer from the trip.

flywheel is in the right place and the right shape, only the bottom part made of silver plastic is more than practical to brighten up the black color. The traffic in the city is good, but on the highway the direction needs to be slightly corrected, especially when braking. Well, with such a wheelbase, you shouldn't expect a sedan's directional stability, and winter tires also contribute.

Small gas station engine it seems to be the right choice for the average, not overly demanding user. In fifth gear, it spins at just under 100 rpm at 3.000 km / h and 140 rpm at 4.000 km / h, which is a solid figure for a gasoline engine of this size.

I am not particularly happy to rotate, after five thousand it makes no sense to chase after him. Aside from occasional resistance to rearward movement, the gearbox does not jam and can be almost sporty when needed.

Consumption with an economical driver, it stops a little more than six liters, after driving on the highway within the limits of the legal restrictions, we aimed at 6 liters (interestingly, the on-board computer showed almost a liter more), but when the person behind the wheel is in a hurry, it grows to just over ten liters a hundred kilometers. Big!

Therefore, we think that this engine is a good choice for moderately fast movement, and "racers" look for the most powerful diesel version, which consumes less fuel while moving significantly faster.

So, in this small three-door city car, three curls took us to Milan and back in one day. And while we joked before our morning departure that the recession was also affecting journalistic vehicles, after a thousand miles we came to the mutual conclusion that the i20 is not bad at all. It is worth considering!

evaluation

  • An engine with a volume of 1,2 liters will be enough for the vast majority of mortals who buy such a car for driving around the city and outside the city, and we also made sure that it does not get tired of miracles even on a long, many thousand trip. I would like a couple more doors, but this is a matter of desire and taste.
