Paris RER V: what will the cycling highway of the future look like?

The Vélo le-de-France team has just unveiled the first five axes of a future regional network of cycle paths that will enable safe cycling between the main centers of activity in the Ile-de-France region.

From a confetti proposal to a real transport network.

If there are already good cycling facilities in the Paris area, they will remain scattered on the map. The ambition of the Vélo le-de-France team is to offer cyclists the same complete network of trails as the Metro or RER. After a year of associative work, the nine main lines were retained. Wide, continuous, comfortable and safe, they stretch for 650 km across the region. Five radial lines have now been finalized, and those that will be developed in the first phase of the work were made public at the end of November. Line A to some extent repeats the RER line of the same name from west to east, connecting Cergy-Pontoise and Marne-la-Vallee. Line B3 will run from Velizy and Saclay to Plaisir. The D1 line will connect Paris with Saint-Denis and Le Mesnil-Aubry, while the D2 line will connect Choisy-le-Roi and Corbeil-Esson. All of these lines will, of course, pass through the capital to effectively connect the residents of Ile-de-France to the center of Paris.

Continuity of cycle paths in several forms

Depending on the location, different infrastructure will be deployed along these axes. A cycle path can be unidirectional or bi-directional, it can also consist of a “green lane” common to pedestrians but excluded from motorized vehicles, or even a “bike path”. These are small streets where car traffic is limited and where cyclists can ride safely.

So, if, of course, this project suits us completely, everyone is left with one question: “When is it?” “
