Hyundai Ioniq 5: TEST, highway driving 130 km / h Poor conditions, rough consumption: 30+ kWh / 100 km

The Battery Life channel tested the Hyundai Ioniq 5 Limited Edition Project 45. The car is a crossover in the D-SUV segment with a 72,6 kWh battery, four-wheel drive and 225 kW (306 hp). When driving on the highway at a speed of 130 km / h in poor conditions, it can cover up to 220 kilometers without recharging.

Real coverage of Ioniqa 5 “Project 45”

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 "Project 45" was offered with 20-inch wheels as standard, which reduces the vehicle's range by a few percent. Unfavorable weather also reduced the range by a dozen to several tens of percent.: heavy rain and 12-13 degrees Celsius. Thus, we can conclude that this test marks the lower range region of the Ioniq 5 at 130 km / h, although of course it will be worse in the cold because the heat pump will probably have to be supplemented with heaters.

The car was removed from the charger with the battery 98 percent charged. The heating was set at 22 degrees, the car was moving in economy mode, with an active rear engine and a disabled front engine (this option is available in vehicles on the E-GMP platform). Average energy consumption on a test site with a length of 204,5 km. was 30,9 kWh / 100 km (309 Wh / km) at an average speed of 120,3 km / h, so if the battery is discharged to zero, the range will be 222 kilometers.

Of course, no one normally discharges to zero. So, on a typical trip we will have:

  • 200 kilometers range to the first stop (100-> 10 percent),
  • The nearest stop is 156 kilometers (85-15 percent).

This is the second confirmation that Hyundai's Ioniq 5 won't be as fuel efficient as the Ioniq Electric... First, the car's official range is just 478 WLTP units, as stipulated by the manufacturer. rear drive, that is, 409 kilometers in kind in mixed mode.

Most of the energy was consumed by the power unit (92 percent), electronics a little less (5 percent), the least required was a heated air conditioner (3 percent):

On the other hand: if we consider that the driver maintains a 120-130 km / h counter (not GPS 130 km / h), and the weather is slightly better, we can assume that the car should travel about 290 kilometers. on a single charge (we shoot that Bjorn Nyland accelerates to 290-310 km at 120 km / h). And during breaks, it quickly replenishes energy at an ultra-fast charging station that supports cars with 800 volt settings (like the Ionity).

During the test, we noticed curiosity. Well, as the car approached the line on the road, the counters showed camera previews reporting this fact. It also turned out that in the rain, nothing is visible through the rear window, despite the "specially shaped air flow." There was no wiper.
