Elon Musk reveals Tesla Cybertruck's initial production will be a 4-motor variant

Elon Musk continues to release some updates for the Tesla Cybertruck. Previously, the three-engine variant was supposed to be a top-notch pickup truck, but now the biggest and coolest Cybertruck will have one engine per wheel, allowing it to move in crab mode.

Tesla Cybertruck production plans are changing again. Last Friday, CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter that the first Cybertrucks to go into production will be a "four-motor variant" with "ultra-fast independent torque control for each wheel." First of all, this excludes the production of a three-engine variant, which was supposed to be the first. Secondly, this four-engine variant is something completely new.

We'd like clarification on the truck's specs and production plans, but Tesla doesn't have a public relations department to respond to requests for comment. Perhaps the three-motor variant has died in favor of this new four-motor truck, and it is not known what about the two- and single-motor electric trucks. Musk tweeted that those who booked a truck other than this four-engine variant would be able to upgrade it. He did not provide any other battery, power, or engine specs, but reiterated that the Cybertruck would be a "wacky tech car".

Tesla will walk in crab mode

However, the CEO has revealed plans for front and rear wheel steering systems on at least one of the electric truck models. This will allow the Cybertruck to "ride diagonally like a crab". , and even goes by the name "CrabWalk," giving the massive electric pickup truck the ability to, as Musk puts it, move diagonally. These are wild creatures.

The Cybertruck was due to begin production later this year at the automaker's new plant in Austin, Texas, but Tesla has pushed production of the first vehicles to 2022. By then, the Texas plant should be online and producing Model Y SUVs before the Cybertruck starts rolling down the production line.
