The design of a metal planer is simpler than most other types of metal planers. For example, there is no mechanism for adjusting the blade and chipbreaker or iron between the iron and the lever cover.Chassis

Since the body of a metal planer is usually relatively narrow, the sole is also narrow. It is usually about 38 mm (about 1½ inches) but can be as high as 50 mm (2 inches).Iron
A flat iron, or blade, narrow compared to most other planer blades, usually 25 mm (1 inch), 31.75 mm (1¼ inch) or 38 mm (1½ inch) wide and relatively thick, about 4 mm (5/32 inch) .
It has a very distinctive rounded or "convex" cutting edge so that the blade acts as a notch to remove a lot of excess wood.Blade support

On some scrubbers, the lever cover is attached behind a clamping bar - a metal rod, the ends of which fit into holes in the cheeks of the planer body.
A pair of stops, called lever cap stops, hold the lever cap in the correct position when it is behind the hold-down bar and over the blade.
The lever cover handle has a short bolt that goes through the lever cover and is tightened on the blade. The end of the threaded bolt protruding against the blade presses the cap against the clamp bar, holding the iron securely in place.
Other cleaning planers do not have a clamping bar, the lever cover is secured with a screw that goes through a keyhole in the cover and into a threaded hole in the body of the planer. By tightening the handle of the lever cap, the cap is pressed against the screw, holding the blade firmly.Set screws
On some scrapers, the blade is adjusted laterally - so that it is parallel to the sole across the entire width - by turning the "set screws" with a screwdriver. There is a set screw on each side of the aircraft body. On aircraft without set screws, side adjustment is done manually by loosening the lever cover knob.Mouth
A mouth is a hole or slit in the bottom of a plane through which the cutting edge of the iron protrudes to cut wood. Since the planer is used to quickly remove excess wood, the neck must be wide to allow relatively thick chips to pass through.Bag and front handle
The bag, or rear grip, is usually a pistol grip shaped like a pistol or pistol grip and is located on the heel of the aircraft.
The front handle, which the carpenter presses down when planing so that the planer bites into the tree, is rounded for a comfortable grip and is attached to the toe.
Both the bag and the handle are held in place by bolts that run from the top down from the handle and into the body of the aircraft.
