The parts of hex keys and Torx keys are the same, only the shape at the end of the key is different. You can use either the long or short end of an L-shaped hex wrench or Torx key to turn the fastener - which end you choose will most likely depend on how much torque you need to apply and the free space around the fastener. Some parts or features of hexagon socket wrenches may not be found in all wrench types. For example, a storage handle is only found on folding key sets.
Long arm
The long lever is the longer of the two sides of an L-shaped hex or Torx key. T-handle wrenches also have a long handle. It is used to further penetrate recesses in the workpiece or between obstacles to access the fastener.
short arm
The short arm is the shorter of the two sides of an L-shaped hex or Torx key. Some T-handle wrenches also have a short lever that protrudes only slightly from the T-handle. Folding hex and torx keys are also short-armed. Short arms are used when space and access around the fastener is not an issue. This allows you to use the long lever as a crank, increasing the amount of torque you can apply to turn the clasp.
End of the ball
Not all hex and Torx wrenches have spherical tips: they are most commonly seen on standard wrenches (see below). What types of hex and torx wrench sets are there?), although less expensive kits often don't have them. The spherical end is a rounded shaft end instead of the simpler straight cut. The ball end is most often seen at the end of the long arm, although it can also be found on the short arm on some.
The spherical end allows a hex key or Torx key to be inserted into the head of the clasp at an angle while still maintaining the ability to turn the clasp. T-handle
T-handle hex wrenches and Torx wrenches offer a more comfortable grip and in some cases can allow you to apply more torque, especially when using a long shank to turn a fastener.
Folding keys
Folding keys can only be found in folding hex and torx wrench sets. All keys in folding sets are short handles that fold into a storage case that also doubles as a turning handle. The closer to 90 degrees the key is extended, the more torque you can apply, and the closer to 180 degrees the key will turn the clasp faster. Storage handle
Storage case/handle suitable for folding key sets. When the hex wrench is turned out, the storage case can be used as a handle to provide more force and torque when turning the fastener. When the keys are folded, the handle becomes a key storage case.
