Before the entry into force in 2013 of the new vehicle registration regulations, the loss, theft or deterioration of a license plate was a real tragedy for car owners. When do you need duplicate numbers?

- driving without license plates, installing various meshes and filters on license plates - 5 thousand or deprivation of rights for up to 3 months;
- driving with false license plates - deprivation of rights for 6-12 months.
That is, if your license plate has become unreadable, letters or numbers have been erased, it is advisable to replace it. The same must be done if you have lost it. And numbers are lost very easily on bad roads.
Various nets and filters that are glued to the numbers in order to make it difficult to identify them by numerous photo and video recording cameras, in fact, do not do a very good job of this task. And after their removal, the numbers may not be recoverable. In addition, a fine of 5 thousand or deprivation of rights is a rather serious punishment.
If the number was stolen, then you need to think carefully before getting a duplicate. Perhaps it was stolen for the purpose of committing fraud or robbery. In this case, it is recommended to re-register the vehicle.
What do you need to make duplicates?
First of all, you need to find a company that will provide you with such a service. You can also contact the traffic police, but the state duty there is the same as that of accredited manufacturers - 2000 thousand rubles.
The right to produce and issue duplicates must be confirmed by a license, and the numbers themselves must comply with GOST. They are printed on a special printer, so the whole process takes a few minutes. You can also order the printing of only one license plate, in which case the price of the service will be 1500 rubles.
Please also note that accredited companies manufacture not only standard rectangular plates for cars, but also square plates for motorcycles, trucks, trailers and tractors.
What documents will be useful for you to obtain duplicates:

- passport (they don’t look at the registration address, because duplicates can now be obtained in any region of the Russian Federation);
- passport or vehicle registration certificate;
- license plate plates.
Plates of license plates are brought only if you have them left. If there are no plates, then their absence cannot be a reason for refusing to make duplicates.
