Jeep Commander - misfire?

Jeep is a legend. No wonder automotive amateurs define the entire group of SUVs from the name of this brand. And this obliges - although the American company has long moved away from the production of strictly off-road vehicles, more suitable for the army than for weekend trips to the beaches and forests, off-road capabilities are still one of the priorities. It's the same with style. The Jeep has always been associated with angular shapes. It was simple. None of the cars of the brand claimed to be a city car with a shiny metallic paint. This was the Commander released in 2006-2010 - the largest SUV in the offer of the American brand.

The angular shape of the body gives the impression that the designers are simply mocking the principles of aerodynamics. The stylists took care of the Jeep's consistency, making the dashboard as "rounded" as the body of the car.

The body is almost 4,8 meters long, has a width of 1,9 meters and a height of just over 1,8 meters. The Commander weighs over two tons, so getting it going for an entry-level 3.0 CRD engine can seem like a daunting task. However, this is only an appearance - the 6-horsepower V218 is quite resourceful - it will accelerate the Jeep to 100 km / h in less than 10 seconds, and will maintain a speed of 190 km / h on the highway. Those who do not care about fuel prices can opt for the classic HEMI with a volume of 5,7 liters and a power of 347 hp. It must be remembered that even when choosing a diesel version, you have to take into account the fuel consumption of 11 liters in the combined cycle, and the result of 15 liters in the city is the standard. Even on the road, the Commander will need 9 liters of diesel. The petrol version drinks much more - even 20 liters. Both engines are mated to a five-speed automatic as standard.

Jeep must be good off-road. The commander is not a racial generalist, but it is not practical to use it only in the city. The Quadra-Drive II transmission provides excellent off-road performance for an SUV. So sometimes it pays to take a trip off the beaten path, remembering that this is a powerful, comfortable car, not a Wrangler, so you won't get far. It's even more of a shame to scratch it...

The huge cabin has room for seven people, while there is room for luggage. It is only 212 liters, but when we are going to go with five, after folding the third row, the trunk volume is as much as 1028 liters. The interior of the Jeep can be customized in fifteen ways, so finding the most comfortable solution for the Commander will not be difficult. What immediately catches the eye at a cursory glance is that each subsequent row of seats is placed higher than the previous one.

The largest Jeep was offered in our country in three trim levels - Sport, Limited and Overland. In the basic version, it had, among other things, automatic air conditioning, a six-speaker audio system, curtains and airbags for the first two rows of seats. It is a pity, however, that you had to pay extra for a lot of money for a rear-view camera or navigation.

The Commander was in production for only four years, which is very short for a Jeep. However, when looking at the American sales results of this model, it is clear that the car quickly left car dealerships only in the first two years of production (88 and 63 thousand units). Since 2008, there has been a sharp drop in sales - up to 27 thousand. copies, and a year later it was even worse - only 12 thousand. The commanders found their masters. Last year ended with the sale of 8 thousand. cars. By comparison, the 2009 Grand Cherokee sold four times better. The data shows US sales statistics.

The Commander has never been a cheap car, although it was cheaper than its European competitors. Even today, the oldest copies cost about 100 zlotys. zloty This is a lot, but to be able to support this giant, you need a rich wallet.
