2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon

The debut station wagon should provide an alternative to larger vehicles thanks to its generous space and choice of a series of six-cylinder engines. It will go on sale in the spring of 2009.

Following the CTS sports sedan and the CTS Coupe concept, the Sport Wagon completes Cadillac's renaissance based on a new design. Like many of the American luxury brand's historic models, it has a distinctive and dynamic silhouette. The rear profile has a modern shape, adding style to the station wagon's previously only practical character. After a premiere at Pebble Beach, Monterey, the CTS Sport Wagon will be showing up at global showrooms this fall and at Cadillac dealers in the spring of 2009.

The CTS wagon shares the same 2 mm (880 in) wheelbase as the CTS sports sedan and is 113,4 mm shorter (7 in). However, it does offer 0,3 liters of luggage space behind the rear seats. Distinctive features of the new model: distinctive V-shaped pattern on the front and rear doors, large vertical taillights made with fiber optic technology, electric tailgate (with key or button inside the car), central rear brake light finely integrated with the roof spoiler , an integrated roof rack with cross bars for an uninterrupted view, a trunk management system with an adjustable luggage compartment floor, new 720-inch wheels and a larger panoramic sunroof.

Cadillac's distinctive V-shaped motif, strongest in the tailgate area, is a combination of angles and planes that embody the tension that the model should accompany. The rear panels protrude slightly from the inner planes of the V-shape, creating a distinctive W-shape at the rear of the car. The large, prominent vertical taillights, combined with the characteristic light tube technology, create a finish that adapts in a unique way to the style of the rear of the car.

One of the most interesting combinations of form and function is the roof rack system. Instead of stylized pillars, brackets and crossbars protruding from the roofline, the CTS Sport Wagon trunk connects to the roofline for an unobstructed look. The center section of the roof panel slopes down at an angle to the inside of the roof edge, allowing for inconspicuous placement of cross beams and creating a fin effect at the extreme edges of the rear panels.

The interior of the Sport Wagon is similar to that of the Sport Sedan, including a streamlined instrument panel, LED lighting and hand-stitched garter stitch accents. We can also find here, among other things, a 40 GB hard drive, a pop-up navigation screen and a handcrafted interior with Sapele wood inserts.

The main power unit in the United States will be a 3,6-liter V6 engine with direct fuel injection with a capacity of 304 hp. (227 kW). Fuel consumption is expected to be 26 mpg or about 9,2 l/100 km when driving on the highway. In a sedan, it was possible to achieve such a value on Polish roads without any problems. The engine is mated to an Aisin manual six-speed transmission or an electronically controlled Hydra-Matic 6L50 six-speed automatic transmission. As with the sports sedan, the CTS Sport Wagon will be equipped with all-wheel drive as an option.

For the European and Asian markets, an economical 2,9-liter diesel engine, a compact four-valve six-cylinder engine with an overhead double shaft with a capacity of 250 hp is being developed. (185 kW).

The suspension is supposed to give the new station wagon a great balance between performance and luxury. It uses double wishbone independent suspension at the front (SLA) and a multi-link rear suspension. The multi-link rear suspension has a completely separate subframe, which helps to achieve excellent suspension kinematics and gives the car exceptional handling.

Advanced chassis technology in the form of the Cadillac StabiliTrak electronic control system combines the standard four-channel ABS system with traction control (more like a stabilization system), hydraulic brake booster and transmission system. Additional chassis components include structural stiffeners between suspension struts under the hood.
