How to quickly find out that the car has survived an engine overhaul

Sellers of used cars often hide the fact that the car the buyer liked was overhauled the power unit. It is understandable, because such work is not always done professionally. So, in the future, you can expect problems with the motor. How to quickly and easily determine that the vehicle has undergone a serious “heart operation”, says the AvtoVzglyad portal.

As always, let's start with simple things. The first step is to open the hood and inspect the engine compartment. If the engine is very clean, then this should alert you, because over the years of operation, the engine compartment is covered with a thick layer of dirt.

At the same time, most manufacturers do not recommend washing the power unit, since electrics and electronics can be poured with water. But if the engine was removed from the car for repair, then it was cleaned of dirt and deposits so that they would not get inside during disassembly.

In addition, the erased dirt from the engine mounts can also tell that the motor was dismantled. Well, if the entire engine compartment of a used car is sparkling clean, this is most likely an attempt by the seller to hide many defects. Let's say oil leaks through the seals.

Pay attention to how the cylinder head sealant is laid. Factory quality is immediately visible. The seam looks very neat, because the machine applies the sealant on the conveyor. And in the process of "capital" all this is done by the master, which means that the seam will be untidy. And if the color of the sealant is also different, this clearly indicates that the motor was being repaired. Inspect the block head bolts as well. If they are new or you can see that they were unscrewed, this is a clear sign that they “climbed” into the engine.

Finally, you can unscrew the spark plugs and use a special camera to inspect the condition of the cylinder walls. If, say, a ten-year-old car has them perfectly clean and there is not a single badass, then this may also indicate that the engine has been “sleeved”. And if you find out that the mileage of the car is twisted, run away from such a purchase. All these are clear signs of a "killed" motor, which they tried to restore.
