Any car has its own "voice" - the sound of the exhaust system. Powerful motors make a harsh bass sound, others sound high, metal rattle is mixed with the sound. The sound of the exhaust largely depends on the condition of the exhaust system and engine, the tightness of the fit of the exhaust pipe to the manifold, the quality of the rubber gaskets that protect the pipes from friction on the bottom of the car.

To know how to change the sound of an exhaust, you need to have at least a little idea of ​​\uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbhow the exhaust system works. Its main task is to reduce the toxicity of gases, reduce noise, and prevent gases from entering the cabin. The exhaust system consists of:

• exhaust manifold - exhaust gases enter it directly from the engine;
• catalyst - in it, as a result of chemical reactions, gases are purified;
• resonator - noise is reduced;
• muffler - noise reduction due to design features.

All these parts are interconnected by transition pipes. Exhaust system problems can lead not only to a not very unpleasant roar while driving, but also to interruptions in the engine.

Two components are mainly responsible for the timbre of the exhaust sound - the catalyst and the silencer. Accordingly, in order to change the tone, you need to check their condition and carry out repairs with them.

The first step is to assess the condition of the entire exhaust system:

• listen to the sound of the exhaust and evaluate the operation of the exhaust system - is liquid pouring, is black smoke coming down;
• check the pipes for corrosion and “burnouts” - the gases leaving the manifold have a temperature of up to 1000 degrees, and over time the metal experiences fatigue and holes form in it;
• check the quality of fasteners - clamps and holders;
• check the quality of the connection of transition pipes, catalyst, resonators, muffler;
• see if the muffler is rubbing against the bottom of the car.

Accordingly, if any problems are found, they must be fixed independently or at the service station.

The tone of the exhaust sound is set in the catalyst. To change the tone, so-called “banks” are used - additional non-standard mufflers that are installed on pipes or connected to catalysts. Inside such cans, the surfaces are covered with special fibers that absorb noise, and there is also a system of labyrinths through which exhaust gases move. The timbre of the can depends on the thickness of the walls and on its internal structure.

You can also change the tone of the sound by using mufflers made of different materials. The inner diameter of the pipes that go from the catalyst to the muffler also affects the sound. True, it would be very difficult to carry out such work on your own:

• firstly, you need to be able to cut pipes with a grinder and have the skills of a welder;
• secondly, the components are not cheap, and specialists will do the work in a special salon.

The change in the sound of the exhaust is also achieved through special muffler nozzles. Propeller blades are installed inside such nozzles, which rotate under the influence of incoming gases, which will also look very cool and stylish.
