Passing the exam in the traffic police on the machine, is it possible to pass on the rights to automatic transmission?

After the introduction of new categories of rights in November 2013, an innovation appeared that significantly simplifies the life of future drivers - you can study at a driving school and pass exams on cars with both manual and automatic transmissions.

A lot of materials have already been written about the differences, advantages and disadvantages of these two types of transmission. One can only add that the automatic transmission is much easier to operate, the need for gear shifting in normal driving mode is practically eliminated, everything is monitored by electronics, and the torque converter performs the role of the clutch. In a word, both beginners and experienced drivers feel confident behind the wheel of a car with automatic transmission.

Based on this, automakers have begun to produce more cars with automatics, and many people immediately want to learn how to drive them, get a driver's license and enjoy all the benefits of having their own vehicle.

Passing the exam in the traffic police on the machine, is it possible to pass on the rights to automatic transmission?

However, there is one "BUT", and very, very weighty. If a future driver has been trained in a car with a manual transmission, then he will receive a license and be able to drive cars with any type of transmission, since it will be very easy for him to change to an automatic, and a CVT, and even more so to a car with a robotic gearbox for two clutches.

Those who have learned to drive an automatic transmission will have to be content with just driving cars with such a transmission. To drive other vehicles, you will have to relearn. Good or bad - depends on the circumstances of each individual.

If, for example, a person wants to learn how to drive his own class “A” compact hatchback, and then change to something else in the future, then you can learn to drive an automatic.

But in order to subsequently get a job as a driver in some company, carry a boss or perform various transportations, it is naturally better to study at a manual transmission. After all, no one will especially buy for you instead of a broken “nine”, behind the wheel of which several dozens of drivers have changed, a new car with an automatic transmission.

The training itself at school is carried out in the same way as in mechanics: you learn the rules of the road, the basics of a car, the rules of first aid. Then you perform various exercises on the autodrome and drive the prescribed number of hours through the streets of the city.

After several weeks of training, you pass exams at the traffic police, according to the results of which you get a driver's license. The only difference is that the rights will have a mark - automatic transmission. If you are stopped while driving a car with a manual gearbox, you will have to pay a fine for driving without a license - article 12.7 of the Code of Administrative Offenses from five to fifteen thousand rubles (this issue has not yet been resolved at the legislative level, but most likely it will be).

Therefore, it is worth considering whether you want to be a “narrow specialist” or, with a little diligence and diligence, comprehend the MCP and calmly drive any car.
