Part 1 of 3. Choose your custom license plate

Enter your message in the box below the sample plate. The message can contain letters, numbers and spaces. The maximum number of characters depends on the license plate design you choose.

  • A warning: Vulgar, rude or offensive license plate messages are not allowed. They may appear as available on the license plate website, but your application will be rejected if the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles deems your message inappropriate.

Step 4: Check for a message about your license plate. After entering the message, click the "Submit" button to see if the plate is available.

If the tablet is not available, keep trying new messages until you find the right one.

Part 2 of 3. Order your personal license plates

Step 1: Download and print the personalized license plate application form.. On the Nevada license plate page, click the SP 66 Application link to download the form.

Print out the form. If you wish, you can complete the form on your computer before printing it.

Step 2: Enter your personalized license plate information.. Select the type of vehicle you have and then write down the license plate design you would like.

Write a message about the license plate in the First Choice field. If you're worried that your license plate message will no longer be available when your application is received, you can also enter a second or third option.

Enter the current license plate of the vehicle.

When prompted, provide an explanation for your license plate message. This helps the Department of Motor Vehicles decide if your personalized message is appropriate.

Step 3: Enter your personal details in the form. Please provide your name, driver's license, address, phone number, and email address when prompted.

If you are ordering a license plate for someone else, please include their name where prompted.

  • Attention: The license plate must be ordered for the registered owner of the vehicle.

Step 4: Write down your local Department of Motor Vehicles office..

Step 5: Sign the application and date it.

Step 6: Pay for your personal license plate. Write a check or receive a money order payable to the Nevada DMV if you are mailing your application.

Complete the credit card application form if you are going to pay by fax.

The fee you have to pay is listed next to the number plate design you choose.

Step 7: Submit your application to the Department of Motor Vehicles.. If you are submitting your application by mail, please send it to:

Alternatively, you can simply file a claim with the Full Service Department of Motor Vehicles.

Part 3 of 3. Set up your personal license plates

Step 1: Choose Your Personal License Plates. Once your license plate application has been processed and accepted, your personalized license plates will be produced and sent to the Department of Motor Vehicles office you specified on your application. They will notify you when your plates are delivered.

When you receive a notification, go to the office and collect your plates.

Step 2: Install the plates. Install personalized license plates on the front and back of your car.

Don't forget to install new plates as soon as you pick them up.

If you are not comfortable installing license plates yourself, you can go to any garage or mechanic shop and have them installed.

This is a good time to check your license plate lights. If your license plate is burned out, you need to hire a mechanic to help you get the job done.

  • A warning: Before you drive, be sure to stick stickers with current registration numbers on new license plates.
