How to buy a good quality mirror with a towing clip

If you're towing a trailer or boat, you know firsthand that it's nearly impossible to keep an eye on your trailer with your car's standard side mirrors. The rearview mirror doesn't offer much more help. A clip-on towing mirror can eliminate these problems. They attach to the side view mirror housing, widening your view so you can keep an eye on things.

A good quality clip-on towing mirror should never obstruct the view from your vehicle's existing mirrors, and should be shaped to minimize vibration from the air flowing around and around it. Here are a few things to look out for when looking for a clip-on towing mirror:

  • CorrespondA: Make sure the mirror you buy either fits your car or fits it universally. Do not attempt to install a clip-on towing mirror designed specifically for one make and model of vehicle on another type of vehicle.

  • aerodynamicA: If the mirror design is not sufficiently aerodynamic, the airflow around the mirror may cause vibrations. This makes it difficult to see the trailer in the mirror. Look for a streamlined design.

  • Length: Look for a mirror that can extend far enough so you can see the trailer. Larger, longer vehicles will require longer mirrors than shorter vehicles.

  • Safety systemA: You want to make sure the clip-on towing mirror is securely attached to the side view mirror, but there are several different systems. You can choose from Velcro fasteners, adjustable straps and clips, and more.

With the right clip-on towing mirror, you can keep a close eye on your trailer as you drive.
