How do car dealerships cheat when buying a new car? Tips on how not to get caught!

When a buyer comes to an advertised car dealership, he seriously believes that no one will deceive him here: they will sell a brand new car, recently from the assembly line, at a fair price, without any markups and hidden payments ...

However, human arrogance has no boundaries, they can deceive not only in the market, but also in the best car dealership. There are many ways, and you can not even guess about deception until the last moment.

Car loans

On Vodi.su, we talked about the loan programs of different banks. Many automakers cooperate with financial institutions and offer their more favorable conditions. It even comes to the point that the old telephone bases are rising and managers are calling potential customers to describe all the advantages of this or that loan product.

There was a case recently. One good friend decided to change the car - the old Hyundai Accent to something newer. He went to the websites of different salons, talked with managers, possibly left his contact details. They called him and said that there was an excellent offer: when putting in a trade-in, a new car can be bought at a discount of up to 50% percent, and the amount can be issued on credit.

When our friend arrived at the indicated address, the managers began to describe all the advantages of the cars on display and offered to sign the contract right there. But, having carefully read the conditions, the acquaintance realized that he was offered not even an ordinary consumer loan, but microloan - 0,5% per day. Based on the fact that he lacked about 150 thousand rubles, which he wanted to split into six months, you can calculate on your own what the overpayment would be.

There are other ways to divorce on car loans:

  • providing false information;
  • provision of information not in full;
  • additional requirements (they are written about at the very bottom of the contract in small print).

That is, you read that you can buy some Ravon R6,5 at 3 percent per annum with a loan term of up to five years. But when you come to the salon, it turns out that such conditions are valid only if you pay 50% of the cost, apply for CASCO in a partner insurance company, pay for the manager's services in the amount of 5% of the price, and so on. If you make only 10-20% as a down payment, then the interest rate rises sharply to 25% per annum.

Pricing, value fraud

We all have heard that in other countries, car prices are much lower. We have already talked about various online auctions in Germany, the USA or Japan, where used cars can be bought for mere "penny". The same applies to new cars. In Russia, you can buy cheaper only domestic products: AvtoVAZ, UAZ, foreign cars assembled at Russian factories - the same Renault Duster or Logan.

On pricing very often come across gullible buyers. So, you can often see ads like: “Crazy discounts for the 2016 model range, up to -35%.” If you "bite" on such advertising, we will be very happy if you really manage to buy a brand new car of the past or even the year before last at a discount.

But most often, buyers are faced with the following divorce:

  • the discount applied only to top-of-the-line cars with additional equipment;
  • discount cars are over (so they say);
  • discount due to defects (this also happens if the paintwork was damaged during transportation).

Well, the most common option: yes, indeed, there is a discount - 20%, but for the services of a manager and for the financial support of the transaction, the salon needs to "unfasten" an additional mere trifle - 20-30 thousand rubles. Or you will be pleased that at the moment these cars are not available, they are located at a transshipment base a thousand kilometers away, but managers will be happy to put you on the queue if you make an advance payment.

Well, another common trick is your own exchange rates. We all know perfectly well that since 2014, the ruble has been either rising or falling. Today, exchangers show off the exchange rate of 55 rubles per dollar, tomorrow - 68. But car dealerships distribute their advertisements: “We don’t have a crisis, we sell at the rate of 2015, saving 10 rubles per dollar / euro.” Accordingly, the prices are indicated in foreign banknotes. But when the seller begins to calculate the exact cost, it turns out that the exchange rate is too high compared to the Central Bank and no savings are provided.

Used and defective cars

Most Internet users have no idea how a computer or smartphone works. The same applies to a huge percentage of motorists - some knowledge from a driving school about changing a wheel or checking the oil level remains, but they hardly remember what a fuel pump or a starter bendix is.

This is what service workers use. Anyone can be deceived. Even an experienced driver is unlikely to notice that instead of the expensive HUB-3 wheel bearings manufactured by FAG, SKF or Koyo, inexpensive Chinese counterparts such as ZWZ, KG or CX were supplied. The same simple operation can be done with any engine, suspension or transmission system. Naturally, the buyer will undergo maintenance at a partner service station, where there is hardly an honest auto mechanic who will honestly say why the car breaks down so often.

Other types of deceit can be mentioned:

  • masking defects without providing a discount;
  • repairing a car delivered under the trade-in program and selling it at the cost of a new one;
  • twisting the mileage when selling show cars that were used for a test drive.

Experienced auto mechanics work in conjunction with the managers and management of the salons, so it will be very difficult to unravel the fraud even for an experienced driver, not to mention women who have become frequent customers of car dealerships in recent years.

To avoid fraud, the vodi.su autoportal advises:

  • Carefully study the reviews about the car dealership before contacting;
  • Contact only official dealers of the brand you are interested in (the list of dealers can be found on the official website of a particular brand);
  • Hire an auto expert / auto forensic specialist - who will check the paintwork and all documents upon purchase;
  • Check the TCP and inspect the car before depositing money;
  • Run away from a salon that sells many brands in one salon and calls itself an official dealer.
