How to check PTS for authenticity online?
Any buyer of a used car is interested in the question: are there any simple ways to check the vehicle passport online for authenticity? That is, are there such sites where you could enter the number and series of the TCP and the system will give you all the necessary information:
- actual production date;
- whether there are restrictions on loans or for non-payment of fines;
- Is this vehicle stolen?
- Has he been in an accident before?
Let's answer right away - there is no such site. Let's deal with the issue in more detail.
Official website of the traffic police
We previously wrote on Vodi.su that the traffic police had its own website in 2013, which provides some online services for free:
- checking the history of registration in the traffic police;
- check for participation in an accident;
- wanted search check;
- information about restrictions and pledges;
- information about the registration of OSAGO.
There is also a service for checking the owner of the vehicle himself - whether he was actually given a license and what fines are charged to the person.
To get all this data, you need to enter a 17-digit VIN, chassis or body number. You can check the VU for authenticity by its number and date of issue. Debts on fines are checked by the registration numbers of the vehicle or by the number of the registration certificate. There is no form for entering the PTS number. Accordingly, it is impossible to check this document through the official web resource of the State traffic inspectorate.
What information about the car will the traffic police website give?
If you enter the VIN code, the system will give you the following information about the car:
- brand and model;
- year of issue;
- VIN, body and chassis numbers;
- Colour;
- engine power;
- body type.
In addition, the registration periods and the owner - an individual or legal entity will be shown. If the car has not been in an accident, is not on the wanted list or in the register of pledged vehicles, then this will also be indicated, you just need to enter a captcha of numbers.
All information received can be verified with those recorded in the TCP. If the system gives an answer that there is no information on this VIN code, this is a reason to worry, since any car registered in Russia is entered into the traffic police database. That is, if the owner shows you a passport, but the check does not work according to the VIN code, then most likely you are dealing with scammers.
Other reconciliation services
VINFormer is an online vehicle inspection service. Here you also need to enter the VIN code. In free mode, you can only get data about the model itself: engine size, start of production, in which country it was assembled, etc. A full check will cost 3 euros, while you will receive information about possible thefts, accidents, restrictions.
Another service, AvtoStat, works on the same principle. It allows you to check cars imported to Russia from Europe, USA and Canada. The free report only contains information about the model. Having paid 3 dollars via an Internet wallet or a bank card, you will find out the entire history of the vehicle you are interested in:
- country of origin;
- how many owners there were;
- dates of maintenance and diagnostics;
- whether wanted in the USA, Canada, Romania, Slovenia, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Russia;
- photo report - if the car was sold at auction;
- factory equipment at the time of the first sale in the cabin.
That is, if you buy a car imported from abroad, you can bookmark these two services.
There are other less popular online services, but they are all connected to the databases of the traffic police, Carfax, Autocheck, Mobile.de, so you are unlikely to find any fundamentally new information about a used car on them.
Authenticity of PTS
As you can see, there is no service for checking by TCP number. When buying a used car, be sure to check the information received from the sites with the one indicated in the TCP:
- VIN code;
- specifications;
- Colour;
- registration periods;
- chassis and body numbers.
All of them must match. If there are special marks on the form itself, for example, “duplicate”, you need to ask the seller in more detail. Usually, most buyers refuse to buy a car on a duplicate, but it can be issued in case of a banal loss of a passport or its damage. In addition, if the car often changed owners, the traffic police should issue an additional form, while the original also remains with the last owner.
Online services can be trusted 100 percent, but in order to completely dispel doubts, it is better to immediately go to the nearest traffic police department, where a staff member will check the car against all their databases, this service is provided free of charge. Do not forget also about the online registry of collateral of the Federal Notary Chamber, where the car can also be checked by the VIN code.
