How to connect a generator?

The role of the alternator is to recharge your battery. If it doesn't work, it obviously needs to be changed. Installing a new alternator requires, in particular, the removal of the alternator belt. Then you need to disconnect and properly connect the new alternator, which has an electrical connection.

Step 1: Remove the alternator belt.

Step 2: remove the old generator

Once the alternator belt has been removed, you finally have access toalternator... Disconnect it: remove electrical connections. But before disconnecting the generator, be sure to remember the location and color of the connectors.

Then remove the generator by unscrewing its mounting screws. To remove the generator, you sometimes need to shake it or lift the tire iron.

Step 3: Connect the new generator

By making sure that the new alternator is identical to the old one and therefore compatible with your vehicle, you can connect your generator new.

After connecting the generator, tighten its mounting bolts.

Step 4: Assemble the alternator belt.

When you are finished connecting the alternator, replace the belt and tension it correctly. Start by installing on it pulleys depending on the location you did at the beginning of the operation. In particular, the belt must pass through alternator pulley.

Tensioning is done differently depending on the type of tensioner your machine is equipped with. If the idler roller is manual, you must tighten it by hand until you get the correct tension. Be careful, as an improperly tensioned belt can damage your engine and will wear out much faster.

Once the alternator belt is correctly tensioned, you can reassemble the parts you removed to gain access to the alternator. Finally, reconnect the battery.

Finally, make sure your generator is working properly and wired correctly. To do this, use a multimeter and check voltage battery.
