In various articles on automotive topics, you can read that tires must be stored strictly in an upright position on special racks or in a suspended state. Let's say right away that the position of the tires during seasonal storage is much less important than the temperature regime in the room. Optimal storage conditions for tires: 5-20 degrees, low humidity and no direct sunlight.

So, let's list what needs to be done so that next season you don't have a question about buying a new set of winter or summer tires:

  • we remove the wheels along with the disks (if you cannot afford to buy an additional set of disks, you will have to go to a tire fitting or remove the tire from the disk yourself using a mount);
  • we mark the wheels with chalk - PL, PP - front left, front right, ZP, ZL, if the tread is directional, just mark the front and rear axles;
  • the wheels can be thoroughly washed with soap and dried thoroughly, all the stones stuck in the tread must be removed, you can also use special chemical preservation agents, they will preserve the natural state of the rubber and prevent microcracks from gradually spoiling your tires.

Next, you need to choose a good place for storage, a heated garage is ideal, according to GOST, tires can be stored at temperatures from -30 to +30, but not longer than a month. At low temperatures, hard summer tires can begin to deform, and winter tires at high temperatures will become covered with cracks that you won’t even notice. Humidity ranges from 50 to 80 percent, if the room is very dry, you can moisten it a little from time to time.

It is also important to remember the following requirements:

  • tubeless tires on disks are stored in an inflated state;
  • chamber rubber on disks is also stored in an inflated state;
  • tubeless without discs - you need to insert supports inside to maintain shape;
  • chamber without disks - the air is slightly deflated.

Put rubber without discs on edge, if space does not allow, then you can fold it in a well, but periodically shift it in places. Tires with disks can be hung on hooks, put a soft rag in the places of contact with the hook so that the bead does not deform, it is also possible to stack them in piles.
