How to change a wheel? Watch the video and advice. Self replacement.

Probably any motorist faced in his life with the question of how to change a wheel. There is nothing complicated in this operation, the sequence of actions is the simplest:

  • we put the car in first gear and on the hand brake, put a shoe under the rear or front wheels (depending on which wheel we change);
  • loosen the bolts that hold the rim on the hub;
  • we raise the car with a jack, place a wooden block between the jack and the stiffener of the side of the car so as not to damage the bottom;
  • when the wheel is off the ground (it is advisable to raise it higher, the inflated spare tire will be larger in diameter), unscrew all the nuts to the end and remove the disc from the hub.

Every car comes with a spare wheel. Depending on the brand of the car, it can be stored in the trunk, screwed to the bottom. On trucks, it is fixed on a special stand and is quite heavy in weight, so in this case you cannot do without an assistant.

Depending on the method of fastening the wheel - on studs or on pins - we lubricate them well so that the thread does not stick with time and we do not have to suffer the next time during a seasonal replacement or another breakdown. We bait the spare wheel on the bolts and tighten it a little with nuts, then lower the jack and tighten it all the way, you don’t need to try to apply a lot of force or press the balloon wrench all the way with your feet so as not to strip the thread.

You can determine that the nut is fully tightened by clicking. Tighten the nuts preferably not one after another, but through one or a cross. When the nuts are fully tightened, you need to check the pressure in the tires using a pressure gauge, pump them up if necessary. If air seeps through the spool, then there is a problem with tightness, try to twist it more tightly so that you can get to the nearest tire shop.

After a few kilometers, you can stop and check how tight you tightened the bolts. If the car does not “steer” to the side, the rear end does not float, the car obeys the steering wheel, then everything is fine and you can go further.
