How to shift gears on video mechanics

With the widespread use of automatic transmissions, many beginners prefer to immediately learn how to drive cars with automatic transmission, however, only the person who can drive a car with any transmission can be called a real driver. Not without reason, in driving schools, many people prefer to learn to drive with mechanics, even if they have a brand new car with an automatic transmission or a CVT in their garage.

Learning how to change gears correctly on a mechanic is not such a difficult task, but only if you practice long enough, you can ignore the type of transmission and feel confident behind the wheel of a car with any equipment.

Gearshift ranges on the mechanics

  • first gear - 0-20 km / h;
  • the second - 20-40;
  • the third - 40-60;
  • fourth - 60-80;
  • fifth - 80-90 and above.

It is worth noting that the speed range in a particular model depends on the gear ratio, but approximately corresponds to the specified scheme.

Gears need to be switched very smoothly, then the car will not twitch sharply or “peck” with its nose. It is on this basis that they determine that an inexperienced novice is driving.

To get moving, you need to act like this:

  • squeeze the clutch;
  • put the gearshift lever in first gear;
  • with an increase in speed, smoothly release the clutch, the car starts moving;
  • the clutch needs to be held for a while, and then completely released;
  • then press gently on the gas and accelerate the car to 15-20 km / h.

It is clear that you won’t drive like that for a long time (unless, of course, you study somewhere in a wasteland). As the speed increases, you need to learn to shift to higher gears:

  • take your foot off the gas pedal and depress the clutch again - gears are switched only with the clutch depressed;
  • at the same time put the gearshift lever in neutral position;
  • then shift the lever to second gear and throttle, but also smoothly.

Switching to higher speeds follows the same pattern. The faster the vehicle is moving, the faster this operation must be performed.

Jumping over gears is not recommended, although it is not prohibited, but you should only do this if you have the skill, otherwise the gearbox gears will wear out faster and the engine may stall.

The higher the speed of movement - the higher the gear, the gears of higher speeds have a longer pitch - the distance between the teeth, respectively, the crankshaft speed decreases with increasing speed.

Downshifting:

  • take your foot off the gas and slow down to the desired speed;
  • we squeeze the clutch;
  • we switch to a lower gear, bypassing the neutral position of the gearshift lever;
  • release the clutch and step on the gas.

When switching to low gears, you can jump through gears - from fifth to second or to first. The engine and gearbox will not suffer from this.
