Replacing the cabin filter - how to change the cabin filter yourself?

The cabin filter is designed to ensure normal air circulation in the car interior. If the filter is not replaced for a long time, then a lot of dust and dirt accumulates on it, due to which normal circulation becomes difficult, various unpleasant odors appear and the windows begin to fog up, which is especially unpleasant in the cold season.

In most cars, the cabin filter is located behind the glove compartment, although in some brands, such as the Ford Focus, the filter is located on the driver's side, near the gas pedal. According to the instructions, the filter must be changed every 15 thousand kilometers. To replace the filter, you need a standard set of tools: a screwdriver, a ratchet with removable heads of the desired diameter, a new filter.

If the filter is located behind the glove compartment on the passenger side, then the sequence of actions for replacing it is as follows:

• to gain access to the filter you need to open the hood, remove the rubber seal that closes the soundproofing edge, carefully remove the windshield trim, carefully unscrew the nuts securing the wipers, unscrew the windshield frame lining - this must be done very carefully, folding all the nuts, washers and seals in the reverse order, do not forget that hoses for supplying washer fluid are attached to the lining from below;
• when you have gained access to the filter, you need to unscrew the nuts or screws that hold it in the air intake;
• then the old filter is removed, and a new one is installed in its place and everything is twisted in the reverse order.

This sequence is suitable for domestic VAZs (Kalina, Priora, Grant, 2107, 2106, 2105, 2114, 2112, 2110), you just have to remember that each model has its own installation features.

If you have a foreign car (such as Ford Focus, Volkswagen Tuareg, Opel Astra, Mercedes E-class, BMW 5 series, etc.), then to replace it, it is not necessary to open the hood and remove the lining and sound insulation, just unscrew the glove compartment, under it there is a decorative overlay, behind which the air intake housing is hidden. The filter is carefully removed, do not pull it hard, remember that a lot of dirt has accumulated on the filter. The new filter is installed in place of the old one, while trying not to break the plastic frame of the filter.

The cabin filter must be changed in a timely manner. Unpleasant odors are not the worst thing, various bacteria and microbes can multiply on the filter, various diseases can be caused by breathing such air, and allergy sufferers simply cannot be in your car. It is worth noting that many budget cars are not equipped with filters and all the dust from the street accumulates on the front panel or freely spreads through the cabin. To avoid this, you can install a cabin filter in special salons.
