How does replacement parts work?

Buying a car is exciting, but it can be one of the biggest purchases you'll ever make. You can reduce the amount you pay upfront or in cash by using your old car as part of the deal. This is known as a partial exchange. Here's our guide to parts replacement and why it might be a great option for you.

How does replacement parts work?

Swapping parts means using the value of your old car as part of the payment for a new car. If you decide to partially trade in your old car, the dealer evaluates its value and actually buys it from you. However, instead of giving you money for your old car, the dealer deducts its value from the price of your new car. Thus, you only have to pay the difference between the exchange value of your old car and the price of your new car.

Consider this example:

Your new car is worth £15,000. The dealer is offering you £5,000 in exchange for your old car. This £5,000 is deducted from the price of your new car so you only have to pay the remaining £10,000.

How does the dealer calculate the value of my old car in a partial exchange?

There are many factors that determine how much a used car costs. These include its make and model, age, mileage, condition, availability of desired options, and even color. All this and much more affects how the value of a car decreases over time.

Dealers usually refer to one of the used car valuation guides compiled by industry experts that take into account all the factors mentioned above or use their own scoring system.

If you partially trade in your vehicle with Cazoo, we will obtain some information about your current vehicle at checkout and provide you with an instant online vehicle valuation. The price of your partial exchange is then deducted from the value of your Cazoo vehicle. It's no bargaining and we won't refuse your offer.

Should I do something with my old machine before it is partially replaced?

There are a few things you should always do before handing over your old car to a new owner, including when you've partially traded it in. Gather all the paperwork you have on the car, including the service book, all garage receipts, and the V5C registration document. You will also need all sets of car keys and any parts or accessories that come with it, and you should give it a good cleaning inside and out.

What will happen to my old car if I replace it with parts?

One of the benefits of a partial exchange is that you hand over your old car at the same time as you pick up your next car. This means that you are never without a car, and you do not have to deal with selling your old car or finding a place to park it until you find a new owner for it.

Whether you choose to deliver your Cazoo vehicle or pick it up at your local Cazoo Customer Service Center, we'll get your current car out of hand at the same time.

Can I partially exchange my old car if it has outstanding finances?

Partial vehicle exchanges are possible before you have fully paid back any PCP or HP funds you spent on it, depending on where you are picking up your next vehicle. Not all car dealerships offer this service.

If your current vehicle has outstanding financial obligations under a PCP or HP agreement with another dealer or lender, Cazoo will still accept it as a partial exchange if its valuation is higher than the amount you still owe that dealer or lender. All you have to do is tell us the correct payment amount at the time of checkout and send us a letter known as a settlement letter before you receive your Cazoo vehicle. You can get a settlement letter by calling or emailing the lender of your financial agreement.

With Cazoo, it's easy to replace your car's parts. We have a wide selection of high quality used vehicles and we constantly update and expand our range.

If you can't find the right vehicle today, you can easily set up a stock alert to be the first to know when we have vehicles that match your needs.
