How to remove a transparent bra from a car

The Clear Bra is a 3M clear protective film that covers the front of your vehicle and helps protect it. As the protective film ages, it becomes dry and brittle. At this point, the transparent bra starts to catch the eye, but it is also very difficult to take it off.

You might think that a transparent bra is impossible to repair before this stage, but with a little effort and patience, you can completely remove the 3M transparent protective film and return the front of the car to the way it should be.

Part 1 of 1: Remove the 3M Protective Film

Necessary materials

  • Adhesive Remover
  • car wax
  • Heat gun
  • Microfiber towel
  • Non-metal scraper

Step 1: Gently try to scrape off the sheer bra.. To get a feel for how difficult this process will be, try scraping off the bra from one corner.

Use a soft, non-metallic scraper and start in a corner where you can get under the protective film. If the protective film comes off in large strips, then the next steps will be a little easier, and the hair dryer can be skipped altogether.

If the transparent bra comes off very slowly, in small pieces, then the process will take a little longer, and you will definitely need to use a heat gun.

Step 2: Use a heat gun or hot steam gun to apply heat. When using a heat gun, you want to work in patches.

Start with a small section of the transparent bra and hold the heat gun over it for one to two minutes until the protective film has warmed up sufficiently. You should keep the heat gun 8 to 12 inches away from the car so as not to burn the transparent bra.

  • A warning: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions when using a hair dryer and be extremely careful with this tool.

Step 3: Use the scraper on the heated area. Use a soft, non-metal scraper on the area where you just applied the heat gun.

Depending on the transparent bra, the entire section may come off at once, or you may need to scrape off the entire protective film for a while.

  • Functions: Only worry about removing the protective film from the car. Don't worry about the glue residue that will most likely be left on the hood as you will get rid of it later.

Step 4: Repeat the heating and cleaning process. Continue heating a small area and then scrape it off until all of the sheer bra is removed.

Step 5: Apply some adhesive remover. After the protective film is fully heated and scraped off, you need to get rid of the adhesive left on the front of the car.

To do this, apply a small amount of adhesive remover to a microfiber towel and wipe off the adhesive. As with heat and scrape, you should use the adhesive remover in small sections at a time and reapply the remover to the towel after you've done each section.

If the adhesive doesn't come off easily, you can use a non-metallic scraper along with a microfiber towel to remove all of the adhesive.

  • Functions: After using the glue remover, you can rub the surface with a clay stick to remove the glue residue.

Step 6: Dry the area. Once you have removed all of the backing paper and adhesive, use a dry microfiber towel to completely dry the area you were working on.

Step 7: Wax the area. Finally, apply some car wax to the area you were working on to polish it.

This will make the area where the sheer bra used to be look like new.

  • Functions: It is recommended to wax the entire front of the car or just the entire car so that the area you have waxed does not stand out.

After you complete all these steps, it will be almost impossible to tell that your car has ever had a transparent front bra. Your car will look clean and new and it won't be damaged in the process. If you feel uncomfortable with any of these steps, ask your mechanic for quick and helpful advice that will make the job much easier.
