How to tint windows?

Car window tinting provides a number of benefits, including:

  • Provides privacy
  • Keeps car interior cool
  • Blocks harmful UV rays
  • Dims the brightness of the sun inside
  • Improves the appearance of the car

Applying tint to windows may seem like a simple matter with just a few steps, but it should be done with extreme care if you are doing the project yourself. If you want to guarantee high quality and flawless work, you should call a window tinting professional.

How to install window tint

  1. Wash your windows thoroughly. Now is the time to clean them inside and out. Window tinting is applied to the inside of the window, but it's much easier to tell if the inside is clean if the outside is also flawless. Use a streak-free cleaner.

  2. Post window tint. Unfold the tint and align it to the inside of the window you are tinting. Make sure the piece of film is large enough to cover the entire window. You can also create a glass template from newspaper or cardboard for the same purpose, and you can even pre-cut film this way.

  3. Wet the window with distilled water. Distilled water does not become cloudy when dried and leaves no residue between glass and film.

  4. Stick the window film on the glass. Align the film so that every corner and edge of the window is covered with the tint.

  5. Squeeze out water and bubbles from under the film. Using a small, hard squeegee or a smooth, flat plastic edge, press the film against the glass. Push trapped air bubbles and water towards the edges to get a smooth, unshakable window surface. Start in the middle and work your way out to the edges for best results.

  6. Trim excess film. Use a new sharp blade to cut off the excess window film. If the film is pasted on the rear window, be very careful not to cut the mesh lines of the rear window defroster.

  7. Wipe the window. Gently wipe the window, collecting any water that may have leaked from under the film.

Let the window film dry for seven days before cleaning to ensure it is fully adhered to the window. If it's a side window that has been tinted, don't open the window for seven days or it may peel off and need to be redone.
