How to install a TV tuner in a car

Step 1: Choose a TV tuner kit. When buying a tuner kit, make sure it includes all the necessary installation materials such as wiring and instructions.

It is recommended to check if the kit will work with the existing monitoring system already installed in the car. This may require the purchase of a kit of the same brand as the monitor.

Step 2: Disconnect the battery. The first step is to disconnect the negative battery cable. This is done to avoid power surges and as a protest to the installer.

Make sure the negative cable is positioned so that it cannot touch the terminal during operation.

Step 3: Find a place for the TV tuner. Next, you will need to decide where the TV tuner will go. It should be in a protected, dry location where cables can be conveniently connected to it. A common place is under the seat or in the trunk area.

Once a location has been selected, it should be prepared for installation. The installation guide may have specific location instructions depending on the make and model of your vehicle.

Step 4: Install TV Tuner. Now that the position is ready, install the TV tuner in the selected location. The device must be secured in some way, whether by tie-down with zip-ties or screwing into place.

Step 5 Connect the TV tuner to a power source.. The TV tuner must be powered by the car's 12-volt power supply to work.

Step 6: Install the IR Receiver. The IR receiver is the part of the system that picks up the signal. This will be installed somewhere where it can reach the signal.

Dash is the most common place. If the installation guide lists an alternative path, try that first.

The receiver wires must then be routed to the tuner box and connected to it.

Step 7: Connect the tuner to the monitor. Run audio/video wires to your existing monitor and connect them to the appropriate inputs.

Wires should be hidden as much as possible.

Step 8Check your device. Reinstall the negative battery cable that was disconnected earlier. Once vehicle power is restored, turn on the monitor first.

After turning on the monitor, turn on the TV tuner and check it.
