How to install a truck tool box without drilling?

In this article, I will share my past experience to help you install your truck's toolbox without drilling.

Choosing the right tool box for your truck is key to ensuring that all supplies and equipment are securely stored without taking up too much room in the truck.

If your vehicle has pre-drilled holes for the truck's tool box, you can install it without drilling. Align the holes in the tool box and cart before replacing the tool box. Now secure the box by tightening the nuts and bolts or J-hooks.

I'll tell you more below.

Truck tool box types

  • Crossover
  • chest-style
  • Low side
  • high side
  • Onboard
  • gull wing

First steps

Step 1: Preparing the Tools

Before starting work, you need to choose a suitable place for installation. Make sure your workspace is open enough to work.

Now organize all the tools you use so that they are easily accessible.

Tools Needed to Install Truck Toolbox

  • Required screws
  • Open-end wrench
  • stuffing material
  • Screwdriver or wrench
  • Calling a measurement
  • Heavy Duty Bolts
  • Aluminum block nuts
  • Aluminum J-hook

Step 2: Purchase a foam rubber pad

When you install it on your truck, the tool box may damage the sides and bottom. To prevent this, you will need a foam pad. It will protect your car from damage.

Before starting the installation process, you will need a foam rubber gasket.

Get accurate length and width measurements for your chosen box type with reordering tape. Then lay the styrofoam on top of the truck body.

AttentionA: If your truck already has body upholstery, you can skip this step. This is because the coating can protect the truck from any paint box damage.

Step 3: put the box in the correct position

The bottom of the cargo compartment of the truck has many holes that are plugged with several rubber plugs.

First you need to remove the plugs from the box and arrange them correctly. Then loosen the cover to properly align the bottom holes with the holes in the truck body rails.

Step 4: Fix the bolts

Once the toolbox and bed rail holes are aligned, your bolts should be put in place and screwed in.

Keep in mind that different trucks have different designs.

You must complete this step before installing the rail box. You will need 4 to 6 bolts to install the toolbox properly.

Step 5: Tighten the bolts

Now you can tighten the bolts with pliers, wrenches, screwdrivers and wrenches - this will help install the tool box on the truck body side members.

Be careful not to overtighten the bolt when assembling the bed frame. Otherwise, the rail may be damaged.

Step 6: Double Check Your Work

Finally, confirm by checking the installation and making sure everything is in place.

Now open the toolbox lid and make sure it opens smoothly. Then make sure all bolts, nuts and washers are tightened correctly and tightly.

Truck Toolbox Installation Recommendations

  • The J-hook must always be made of heavy-duty stainless steel and must be a minimum of 5" to 16" wide by 5" long.
  • It's best to use nuts and bolts that look like an aluminum block that can be attached to the rail as they won't loosen or unscrew due to uneven vibration.
  • Loctite can hold items together, preventing them from being damaged by vibration or shock. This will help you avoid having joints that are too tight or too loose. In addition, the use of a rubber-coated foam strip will act as padding and provide durability.
  • To avoid accidents, always check your tools and keep them clean of dirt, grime or debris.

How to lock the tool box?

There are several options for securing your toolbox. We hope these steps will help you keep your toolbox safe:

  • The best place to secure the tool box to the truck is with the side handles.
  • Attach a padlock to the toolbox bolt and to the selected location on the truck.
  • To lock the lock, close it.
  • Alternatively, you can use a padlock to secure the tool box to the truck.
  • You can also secure the tool box to the car with a chain.

The steps above will allow you to install the truck toolbox effortlessly (without drilling holes). I hope you found this article helpful.
