How to choose brake pads - buying good pads

The safety of passengers and the safety of the vehicle depend on the proper operation of the braking system. Brake pads play an important role - they are pressed against the brake disc when you press the brake pedal and stop the wheels, and they must always do this effectively, regardless of the mass of the car and the speed at which you are moving.

Signs that it's time to change your pads:

  • the appearance of a squealing sound - the wear indicator is erased;
  • when braking, the car loses control, it pulls to one side - the pads wear out unevenly;
  • the pressure on the pedal becomes too soft, and the pedal itself begins to vibrate.

If you notice all these signs, then it is better to replace the pads in time, you endanger your life, besides, worn brake pads can damage the brake disc itself, and then you will have to pay even more money for repairs.

On the market you can find spare parts of various categories:

  • conveyor - used directly to assemble a car at the factory, approximately 10% of such spare parts are sold to dealers, respectively, and are the most expensive;
  • original spare parts - certified by the car manufacturer and produced specifically for dealer stores and large retail chains;
  • non-original - produced without certification and are the cheapest.

Naturally, pay attention to the first two groups of spare parts. Packaging is of great importance, it must contain all certificates, the exact address of the manufacturer, “approved” badges, holographic protection, chemical composition of the last:

  • semi-metallic - contains a large amount of metal dust, wears out quickly and is very sensitive to temperature changes;
  • asbestos-free organic (HAO) - does not create noise when braking, but wears out quickly and emits a lot of dust;
  • organic with a low metal content - steel or copper powder is added to the organic base (liquid glass, rubber, carbon), which improves heat transfer, but produces more noise and dust;
  • ceramics - ceramic fibers with the addition of metal, ideal for passenger cars.

The friction lining must be free of cracks and inclusions of foreign bodies, it must not separate from the metal base plate. You should not pay attention, for example, to sports pads, they are ideal only for the corresponding driving conditions. Give preference to well-known brands, even if their products are more expensive, but you will feel more confident.
