You will most likely have to push the nails up from the bottom to get them out. To do this without damaging them, follow these steps:Step 1 - Find a piece of wood
Find a piece of wood - a block that is slightly thinner than the exposed length of the nail you will be removing.
Step 2 - Drill a Hole
In a piece of wood, drill a hole slightly larger than the diameter of the nail you will be pulling out.
Step 3 - Flip the Board
Rotate the board you will be pulling the nail from so that the point of the nail is pointing up. Make sure you leave enough space under the board for the nails to come out! As a support, use two wooden blocks (or similar) with a gap between them.
Step 4 - Place the crowbar on the nail
Push the hole in the piece of wood down the protruding end of the nail until it stops. The tip of the nail should be visible just above the hole.
Step 5 - Hammer the Nail
Hit the end of the nail with a hammer. A block of wood will prevent it from bending or breaking and getting stuck. The head of the nail should now be tall enough to fit into the paw of your shaft underneath. Now you can pull out the nail - it's the easiest part!

Step 1 - Position the Claw
Slide the curved tab of the rod forward around the nail until the nail is seated in the V-groove.
Alternatively, if you will be using a nail puller to remove the nail, place the nail puller over the head of the nail and move forward or backward until the inside edge of the nail puller engages the head of the nail.Step 2 - Pull out the nail
Push down on the opposite end of the rod until the nail lifts. If you want to remove the nail without damaging the wood base it is inserted into, you may find it helpful to insert a block of wood scraps or wood shingles under the heel of your rod. This will prevent damage to the contact area (the area under the heel of the handlebar) when force is applied.
