How to get nails out of a wooden board?

	Carpenter's tongs are designed to extract small and medium-sized nails sticking out of wood. You can also try using end clippers for this, but their sharper jaws make it more likely that you'll accidentally cut through the nail instead of pulling it out.
	Step 1 - Grab the nail Hold the forceps vertically over the nail. As long as the head of the nail protrudes slightly from the surface of the board, you will be able to clamp it in the claws.
	Step 2 - Rock Pincers If the nail doesn't budge the first time, squeeze the handles together and try gently rocking the tongs back and forth to loosen it.
	Step 3 - Pull out the nail Holding one side of the tong head flat on the wood surface, pull the handles down and toward you in a twisting motion. This will raise the jaws along with the claw.
	If the head of the nail is stuck too deep into the wood to reach, you may be able to pull it out through the back if the end of the nail sticks out the other side. However, this is only practical if the nail has a small pinhead, otherwise the wood is likely to split. Turn the wooden board over and grasp the nail shaft from the underside.
	Raise the nail again, lowering the handles of the pliers towards you. The pliers should pull the entire nail right through the wood and out the other side. This requires more effort than pulling the nail from above, but will cause less damage than trying to pick out the head of the nail.
	If the built-in nail has a large head, it will be too difficult for you to pull it out through the back. Instead, try flipping the board over and hitting the underside of the nail with a hammer or a pair of hammer-headed pliers to push the head up. Once the head of the nail is off the surface, you can grab it with a pair of pliers and pull it out.
	Once you've pulled the nail out, fill the hole with wood putty or wood repair chalk - these are available in a variety of colors. It's also a good idea if you can't get a deep-seated nail out and want to cover it up.
