How to change the oil filter Opel Astra H

Replacing the oil filter with an Opel Astra H 1.6 is a procedure that even a novice car owner can do with their own hands.

The Opel Astra 1.6 oil filter often baffles those motorists who are accustomed to doing simple maintenance work on their car with their own hands. And all because on the 1.6 XER engine installed on the Astra N model, the designers abandoned the already familiar spin-on filter, replacing it with the so-called filter cartridge. There is nothing wrong. The replacement process, if complicated, is very insignificant. For those who do such work for the first time, you can offer a kind of step-by-step instructions.

Changing the oil and oil filter Opel Astra N 1.6

  1. Having installed the car on a pit, elevator or overpass, we warm up the engine. Do not heat up to maximum operating temperature. Since the nuts are not yet wrapped, the hand must resist.
  2. With a key of 17, preferably a pipe one, we unscrew the screws with which the crankcase is attached to the body. It makes sense to do this in a sequence that excludes the fall of the unscrewed protection on the head of the specialist performing the work. Defense aside.
  3. Open the oil filler neck. This will allow the oil to drain completely and faster.
  4. We install a container under the oil drain hole, where the processing will drain. Using a TORX T45 socket, unscrew the oil drain plug and wait for the oil to drain completely.
  5. For those who decide not to use the flush oil, you can immediately tighten the plug and proceed to step 8.
  6. If you decide to use flushing oil, we wrap the plug in place and pour the flush into the engine. After starting the engine, leave it to idle for exactly the time indicated in the washing instructions.
  7. Unscrew the plug again and wait for the discharge to drain. After that, put the plug back in place and tighten it well.
  8. Finally, it's time for the oil filter. The Opel Astra oil filter is fastened with a special bolt, which is unscrewed with a socket head by 24. Carefully, so as not to scatter the contents, unscrew it.
  9. We take out the old filter from the case and throw it away.
  10. The Opel Astra oil filter goes on sale complete with a rubber gasket. It needs to be replaced. The old gasket must be removed. Sometimes sticks to the engine compartment. You can remove it with a flat screwdriver.
  11. If dirt remains in the filter housing, remove it.
  12. Install a new filter and gasket.
  13. Be careful not to damage the plastic filter housing, tighten it.
  14. Fill the engine with engine oil to the level indicated on the dipstick.
  15. After starting the engine, wait a few seconds and make sure that the control lamp goes out.
  16. Check the running engine for oil leaks. If there are, we remove them.
  17. We turn off the engine and return the crankcase protection to its place.
  18. Check the oil level again on the dipstick. Most likely, it needs to be recharged a little.
  19. Remove tools and wash your hands.

That, in fact, is all. It is quite obvious that for a car mechanic, even with little experience, replacing the oil filter with an Opel Astra N does not pose a serious problem. However, I would like to make a few additional recommendations:

  • Buy an Opel Astra oil filter only from well-known and reliable manufacturers. Therefore, you can certainly avoid problems during its installation and subsequent operation.
  • Change oil and filter periodically. This will help to avoid unnecessary problems with the engine. The filter itself, if its service life is exceeded, may be deformed and cease to perform its functions.
  • The screws holding the crankcase protection must be lubricated with graphite grease when tightening. Then it will be easier to open.

Timely maintenance of the Opel Astra car will extend its life and improve the quality and comfort of operation.
