How to Replace a Lost or Stolen Car in Arkansas

Your vehicle title does more than just prove that you are the rightful owner. This allows you to sell your car when the time is right, or trade it in for a new car. This will also be required if you are moving out of Arkansas and need to register your vehicle in the new state. This is a very important document, but it is very easy to lose or even steal it. Headers can also be corrupted and if made illegible they will be illegal. Fortunately, you can contact the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration to obtain a duplicate title deed for a lost, stolen, or damaged vehicle.

In Arkansas, you can apply for a duplicate title by visiting the tax office in person. You will also need to bring a few things with you.

To apply in person:

  • To apply for a duplicate title in person, you must complete Form 10-381 (Application for Vehicle Registration).
  • The form must be signed by the last person named in the header.
  • If more than one person was named and the names were joined by "and", then both signatures must be on the form.
  • If the names were joined by "or", then either party may sign the form.
  • You will need to provide identifying information about the vehicle such as VIN or license plate.
  • You will need to pay $10 for a duplicate/replacement header.
  • You should receive the new title in the mail within three weeks.

To apply for a duplicate vehicle for out-of-state residents:

  • Fill out form 10-381.
  • Include an out-of-state address for sending your duplicate title.
  • Provide a copy of the current registration.
  • Include a $10 fee.
  • Submit your information to the following address:

Department of Finance and Administration

Special licensed unit

PO Box 1272

Little Rock, Arkansas 72201

Attention If a title holder is on the vehicle, the title holder must be notified and must complete Form 10-315 (Authorization to Issue Replacement Title). In this case, the new title will not be mailed to you, but to the pledge holder.
