The heater is one of the components of the engine cooling system. Provides the flow of fresh air heated to a predetermined temperature into the car, making the trip more comfortable for the driver and passengers. All the charm of his work is felt in the cold season, when the thermometer drops below zero. But, like any mechanism, it has its own resource, which eventually ends. But it can be extended with regular maintenance.

The principle of operation of the heater

A side effect of the engine is the release of heat due to the combustion of fuel and friction of parts. The engine cooling system removes heat from very hot parts through the coolant. It travels on the roads and, having given off heat to the atmosphere, returns to the internal combustion engine. The movement of the coolant is provided by a water pump (pump), which is driven by a crankshaft pulley through a belt drive. Also, in models with two heaters, an additional electric pump is installed for better circulation of the coolant through the system. To quickly warm up the engine, the system has two circuits (small and large). Between them is a thermostat that opens the way to a large circuit when the coolant reaches the temperature at which it is set. The large circuit has a radiator in its circuit, which quickly cools the hot liquid. The heater is included in a small circuit. When working properly on a hot engine, the stove heats up.

The Gazelle Business heater consists of a housing, air ducts with dampers, a radiator, a fan with an impeller, a tap and a control unit. Hot engine coolant enters the stove through the nozzles, and after heat is released, it returns back. For better performance, the heater is equipped with an electric motor with an impeller that blows cold air through the radiator cells and, passing through the heated radiator, the air heats up and enters the already heated interior. Dampers can direct the flows in the direction we need (on the glass, on the legs, on the face). The temperature is controlled by a valve that passes a certain amount of coolant through the stove. All settings are made from the control unit.

Diagnostics

There can be many reasons why the Gazelle Business stove does not work. And for a successful repair, you must first identify the cause of the malfunction, and only then proceed to eliminate it:

1. The first step is to check the coolant level in the expansion tank. A low level of coolant leads to the formation of an air lock in the cooling system, and since the heater is the highest point, the "plug" will be on it.
2. Next, you need to check the temperature of the coolant. In the cold season, the engine is intensively cooled and does not have time to gain temperature. The temperature sensor may be faulty and show an incorrect temperature value.
3. Then you need to check the radiator in the cabin, it is clogged and a sufficient amount of coolant may not pass through itself. You can verify this by testing the nozzles at the inlet and outlet of it, they should be approximately the same temperature. If the inlet is hot and the outlet is cold, then the cause is a clogged radiator.
4. If the inlet pipe is also cold, then you need to check the pipe going to the radiator from the engine compartment to the tap. If it's hot, it's a broken faucet.
5. Well, if the tap pipe is cold, then there are more options

• the first thing to believe is the thermostat. This can be done with the engine running but not warm. Start and check the surface before and after the thermostat. The surface in front of the thermostat should be heated, and after it should remain cold. If the pipe after the thermostat is heated, then the problem is in the thermostat.
• the pump is faulty. It is stuck, or the shaft has burst, or the pump impeller has become unusable. The liquid does not circulate well through the system, and because of this, the heating element may cool down.
• the gasket between the block and the cylinder head is broken. This malfunction also affects the operation of the heater and the entire engine as a whole. Accompanied by sticks of white steam from the exhaust pipe and a decrease in coolant in the cooling system. In some cases, antifreeze may leak from the expansion tank.

Repair

After diagnostics, we proceed to repair:

1. If the coolant level is below the minimum mark, then it must be normalized by first eliminating fluid leaks, if any. You can remove the plug by sliding the tubes along their entire length with the engine running. Or put the car in front of the hill and increase the engine speed to 3000 rpm. There is also a way to bleed the system with air pressure. It is necessary to remove the upper tube from the expansion tank and lower it into an empty container. Next, bring the coolant level to a full tank and, by connecting a hand pump to the free fitting, pump air into the tank to the bottom mark. Then drain the antifreeze from the container back into the tank and repeat the procedure. It should be repeated 2-3 times.
2. If the pipes are barely warm, and the sensor shows 90 ° C, then the temperature sensor or thermometer is most likely faulty. They need to be replaced. In severe frosts (above -20), you can close part of the radiator (no more than 50%), then the engine will warm up better and cool down more slowly.
3. To repair the radiator, it must be removed and washed. If flushing does not work, then you need to replace it with a new one.
   
   
4. The mixer may not work due to the drive, or the locking mechanism itself may be faulty. In Gazelle Business, a crane turns an electric motor. Therefore, you must first check the node, and if it is working, proceed to replace the crane. Either it does not open all the way, or it gets stuck all the way in one position, and this can cause a rush of cold air.
5. To replace the thermostat, it is necessary to drain the coolant, unscrew the cover and replace it with a new one, since this mechanism is not repairable.
6. The pump also needs to be dismantled and replaced with a new one. This is a very important element, and due to its improper operation, the entire engine can fail, as the circulation of the coolant is disturbed, and heat cannot be effectively removed from very hot parts. And, as a result, they overheat and deform.
7. The worst thing that can happen to a broken joint is water hammer. When the piston tries to compress the liquid, an increased load is placed on all the mechanisms of the internal combustion engine, which leads to the failure of the entire engine, so such a malfunction must be immediately eliminated. In this case, it is forbidden to continue driving due to the engine power. Such repairs are carried out only with the participation of specialists, since a cylinder head groove is needed, everything else can be done on your own.

There are many reasons why the Gazelle Business stove does not work. But with proper diagnosis and timely repair, you can fix the problem yourself and with a small financial investment.
