How to start a car without an ignition key

Starting a car without a key is a difficult task, but quite doable, as can be seen from the police reports on theft. Even the most impregnable cars disappear under the cover of night in an unknown direction and cannot be found for a long time. Let's say right away that you need to train exclusively on your car, and not on a neighbor's or any other car you like - look through the criminal code to find out what such jokes can turn into later.

Imagine the most banal situation - the keys were forgotten at home or lost, what to do?

First of all, you need to get into the car. How to open the door without a key, we have already told. Do not forget to remove the terminal from the alarm, so that the neighbors do not accidentally call the police. Then you can proceed in several ways.

How to start a car without an ignition key

Method one

The first step is to unscrew the steering column cover, so you get access to the ignition switch. At least three wires are connected to the lock - from the battery, from the starter and a ground wire. Your task is to figure out which wire is responsible for what and connect them correctly.

Grounding is usually black or green, you can determine it with a tester. When this wire is grounded to the body of the car, the arrow will remain at zero. So the two remaining wires are what you need. The ground wire must be securely insulated, because if it touches other wires during operation, the wiring may burn out. We connect the starter and battery wires to each other, power is supplied to the starter, the motor starts to work and we calmly go about our business. Then the starter wire must also be insulated so that the starter does not accidentally start turning during the trip.

Please also note that not three, but many more wires are connected to the ignition lock in more modern cars, which are responsible for different key positions in the lock:

  • 0 - power off;
  • 1 - the ignition is off, but power is supplied to other consumers - headlights, radio, sensors, etc .;
  • 2 - power is supplied to the starter.

Three groups of contacts are obtained, each of which is marked with its own color:

  • grounding - black or green;
  • power - red or yellow - this wire is usually the thickest;
  • starter wire - usually orange.

Again, define the ground wire. Then lightly run them through all the other wires, but do not close them, all those that will spark and are responsible for powering the car system. You securely connect them together and close them with the starter wire - the car should start. Disconnect the starter wire, isolate it and go look for the keys to the car.

Of course, all this sounds very nice, but if you do something wrong or mix up the wires, then you can burn both the sensors and the wiring, and if the car has “brains” - an on-board computer, then it’s generally undesirable to climb into contact groups, it’s better to wait for specialists or call a tow truck.

Method two

It is also worth noting that in some older cars you don’t even need to remove the steering column cover, but you just need to get the ignition lock cylinder, behind it we will see a small recess that you just need to turn with a screwdriver to start the car. But these are quite rare cars of the domestic auto industry of the 60-70s.

This method may also be suitable for more modern cars, although the ignition switch will need to be completely broken and it will not be subject to restoration. You need to take a drill, install it just above the keyhole and drill approximately to the depth of the key. In this way, you will destroy the locking pins that follow the shape of the key. You need to repeat this several times, and then try to turn the lock with a thin screwdriver. After this operation, the car should start, and you will have to completely change the ignition switch, depending on the model, it can be very expensive.

Method Three

It consists in connecting the wire of the ignition coil (distributor) to the battery plus - this is how we turn on the ignition. Then we draw a wire from the starter terminal to the same plus of the battery - the engine should start.

Tips

If you are unlucky enough to get into such a situation, then you need to think carefully about whether it is worth raping your car like that. After all, you still have to unlock the steering wheel, and for this you may have to break the lock with sharp movements of the steering wheel from the extreme left position to the extreme right (if the instructions do not describe how to unlock the steering wheel without a key).

Also, do not forget to put the car on the parking brake and neutral gear.

And most importantly, such methods are suitable for cars produced in the 80-90s, in more modern models there are a lot of blockers that will block everything that is possible - the starter, the steering wheel, and it is unlikely that they will be able to go anywhere.
