Which shock absorber struts are better to put on Geely SK

Off-road, damaged road surfaces, speed bumps, aggressive driving style with sharp turns, accelerations and braking - all this creates a serious load on the car's suspension. The impact of bumps on the unevenness of the road is significantly reduced by the elastic elements of the suspension - springs, springs, torsion bars. However, these elements lead to rather strong swaying of the body in different directions. These vibrations do not dampen fast enough, which can seriously complicate driving and even cause an accident. To neutralize such swings, shock absorbers or suspension struts are used.

      Suspension in Geely CK

The front suspension in Geely CK is independent and equipped with. The suspension strut is connected from above to the upper support, which is attached to the body with four studs and nuts, and from below it has a rigid connection with the steering knuckle. A ball bearing is installed in the support, which ensures the rotation of the rack around its own axis.

Rods with ball tips are connected to the stabilizer of the rack. The strut is movable both vertically and horizontally, unlike a conventional telescopic shock absorber, the stem of which moves only in the vertical direction, while maintaining very large loads. Due to its design, the rack is able to dampen swings in any direction. In addition, the suspension of the body and the free orientation of the front wheels are provided.

The independent rear suspension includes two rear struts, one longitudinal and two transverse levers.

Each rack, both front and rear suspension is equipped with a spring worn over the shock absorber. The shock absorber stem has a limiting damper on top to prevent breakage under excessive shock loading.

Varieties and design features of shock absorbers

The main element of the rack is a shock absorber. It is from him that the operational properties of the rack as a whole largely depend.

Structurally, the shock absorber resembles a hand pump. A piston with a rod is inserted into a cylinder filled with viscous oil. The piston has holes of small diameter. When pressure is applied to the rod, the piston begins to move downward, forcing the oil to be squeezed out through the holes upwards. Because the holes are small and the fluid is viscous, the piston moves slowly. In a two-tube shock absorber, another one is inserted into the outer cylinder, and the working fluid flows from one cylinder to another through a valve.

In addition to oil shock absorbers, there are also gas (gas-filled) shock absorbers. Structurally, they are similar to oil ones, but in addition to oil, they have a gas backwater from below. Gas (usually nitrogen) can be pumped under relatively low (up to 5 bar) or high (up to 30 bar) pressure. In the people, the first is usually called gas-oil, the second - gas.

Unlike a liquid, a gas can compress even under pressure. This allows you to get different compression and rebound parameters of the shock absorber in comparison with purely hydraulic devices. A special valve regulates the movement of gas and oil, preventing their mixing and foaming of the working fluid.

Depending on the pressure under which the compressed gas is located, the operational properties of the shock absorber may differ. Potentially, this makes it possible to optimize devices for different types of cars, roads, and speed limits.

Which racks to choose for Geely SK

It should be noted right away that the behavior of a car in motion depends not only on the type of suspension struts installed, but also on the condition of other elements, the type and condition of tires, driving style and other factors. If something does not suit you in the work of the suspension, do not rush to sin on the racks, first make sure that the reason is not in other things.

Read about how to check the health of the shock absorber.

Usually the choice of shock absorber comes down to solving two questions:

      - oil or gas-oil;

      - which manufacturer to prefer.

The first question could be answered simply - choose what the Geely manufacturer recommends for the SK model. After all, the selection of optimal shock absorber struts is carried out by designers taking into account a number of factors - the mass of the car, its possible loading, speed characteristics, tires used, suspension devices and much more. A significant deviation of the strut parameters from the calculated ones can adversely affect the reliability of the suspension and accelerate the wear of its elements.

And yet, let's dwell on this issue in a little more detail, especially since each car has different operating conditions, and each driver has his own driving preferences.

      1. Gas-filled shock absorbers with high gas pressure (we will call them gas) provide excellent handling, but at the same time they are too stiff. They usually have a single-tube design. Their use will reduce the level of comfort to a minimum. Such devices are only suitable for sports and racing cars. If you're hoping to drive your Geely CK around a Formula 1 circuit or rally, you might want to try gas shocks. In other cases, it makes no sense to consider this option. It is unlikely that any of the owners of Geely SK will like it - it's just not that class of cars.

      2. Gas-filled twin-tube shock absorbers with low gas pressure (we will call them gas-oil shock absorbers) respond more flexibly to the quality of the road surface. Their increased rigidity makes the car more stable, in particular when cornering at high speed. The grip of the tires on the road is also improved. Good handling and driving stability will be useful for high-speed driving. Gas-oil shock absorbers show themselves positively on tracks with fine transverse ribbing. However, you will have to partly sacrifice comfort, driving on a badly beaten road may not be very pleasant.

If you rarely drive your Geely CK from one city to another and do not profess a sporty driving style, there is not much point in installing this type of shock absorber. But if you still decide to install gas-oil shock absorbers, avoid using reinforced springs with them.

Nevertheless, high-quality gas-oil shock absorbers from some manufacturers are able to provide a sufficient level of comfort, adjusting to the quality of the road surface and speed. They are soft enough for relatively slow driving, and become stiffer as speed increases.

      3. Pure hydraulic devices are noticeably softer than their gas-filled counterparts, so they are preferable on damaged roads. Potholes and bumps are best overcome with oil shock absorbers. However, long-term off-road driving is undesirable for them. The constant movement of the piston causes extreme heat and can cause the oil to foam, which dramatically reduces the efficiency of the device and in some cases can damage it. For this reason, they are not used on SUVs.

Struts with oil shock absorbers will provide a good level of comfort, especially with a relaxed driving style. In addition, with soft shock absorbers, ball joints wear out less.

If high-speed riding and improved handling are not your priorities, then an oil shock will be the optimal choice for Geely SK.

Enthusiasts, if desired, can experiment by setting tougher ones. Perhaps in this way it will be possible to improve stability without sacrificing comfort. However, overly stiff springs in combination with a soft shock absorber can increase the buildup on bumps.

Obviously, the question of which type of racks is best for Geely SK does not have a clear answer, since the choice is determined not so much by the features of this model as by the individual needs of the car owner.

The choice of a manufacturer is reminiscent of guessing on coffee grounds, unless, of course, we are talking about such reputable brands as KYB (Kayaba), MONROE or SACHS, which rarely disappoint consumers of their products. But Cayaba and other big brands are often counterfeited, and fakes sometimes look just like the real thing. If you can find original KYB racks for Geely SK, this will be a good, reliable, although not very cheap option.

It is difficult to single out one of the mid-range brands. Stands Konner, Tangun, Kimiko, CDN, as a rule, work fine on Geely SK, but their quality spread is higher than that of leading manufacturers.

In order not to run into a fake and to be able to return a defective product if you are unlucky, it is better to contact reliable sellers. You can purchase oil and gas oil ones in the online store. You can read more about the shock absorber manufacturers presented here in a separate section.
